OBJECTIVE:
The USBU Finance Director, Chief of Staff and Head of Financial Systems will report directly to the CFO/USBU acting as their primary advisor and point person. The Chief of Staff will provide overall strategic and financial leadership for reporting and financial systems, project management, integration, internal communications and process improvement leadership for USBU Finance. This role drives business value by leveraging his/her Finance, Operations and Systems expertise to provide support to both the USBU and Global Finance organizations. This position is responsible for developing and ensuring execution of executive strategic plans, projects and commitments which drive operational efficiencies and connectivity across the unit. Additionally, this role is responsible for keeping the CFO, USBU apprised of key initiatives, providing project oversight and management of cross functional and key initiatives, and ensuring appropriate coordination and management of budgets and integrated project plans for USBU Finance. Acts as proxy for CFO with leadership team as needed. Also has direct responsibilities for a resource (to be hired) which will be focused on Financial Systems and Reporting.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Sets strategic priorities; helping to identify the areas where the team must direct their focus and identifying metrics for success, including monitoring regularly and evaluating progress to goals.
- Develops clear understanding of USBU overall strategies and key priorities to provide operational and integration leadership as key member of the USBU Finance leadership team.
- Serves as a strategic thought partner, in a confidential capacity, with the USBU and Global Finance, providing high-level executive support associated with complex problems, current and future initiatives, strategies, and budgets.
- Develops and executes analytical and tactical strategies to ensure business projects, milestones and policies are completed in a highly effective and timely manner. Example projects include organizational reviews and redesign as required, systems implementations, integration, and planning and reporting optimization.
- Demonstrates collaborative leadership and influence necessary to ensure alignment among key stakeholders and smooth execution of project deliverables.
- Ensures organizational alignment and seamless execution for projects
- Provides ongoing tracking and management of issues and risks related to implementation of USBU Finance initiatives and strategies with meaningful metrics and summary reports.Manages strong relationship with Global Finance including BP&A, Controllership, and IT among others in support of USBU Finance, goals and objectives.
- Serves as ambassador for USBU CFO and leadership team, facilitating communication with other members of the executive team. Anticipates the needs of USBU CFO and leadership team, providing appropriate support and guidance to ensure the departments are operating efficiently.
- Provides overall strategic and financial leadership to USBU Finance systems and reporting operations ensuring to incorporate specific USBU strategic objectives into global solution. Lead ongoing assessment of all finance solutions to ensure fit to support the dynamic business into the next 3-5 years.
- Leads and coordinates USBU Finance leadership and staff meetings based upon strategic priorities.
- Identifies and drives continuous enhancement for design and deployment of internal and external financial reports to support improved financial clarity, structure, and content
- Build and maintain mutually supportive relationships with all levels of management, staff, outside agencies and vendors, when necessary. Works to remove barriers that hamper inter- and intra-department communications. Coordinate and monitor assignments which must be accomplished in conjunction with other senior executives.
- Partners closely with HR lead on matters related to organizational design, structure and personnel issues.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Minimum BS/BA degree with MS/MBA preferred.
- 10 years of relevant business experience required.
- 5+ years experience project management, operations and leadership experience
- 5+ years of finance experience including financial management systems
- Business Intelligence, analytics, reporting and visualization technical expertise
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, strong leadership and organizational skills, and able to drive multiple projects to successful, timely completion in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Energetic, smart, and hands-on self-starter with a desire to learn new things quickly. Proven ability to refine and improve the organization’s capabilities. Demonstrated track record to effectively handle key organizational matters. Must be able to exhibit diplomacy with all constituents and represent the changing face of the organization both internally and externally. Demonstrated track record to proactively identify, assess, and analyze scenarios that may affect operations, and a proven history of taking an institutional perspective.
- Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills with a management style which encourages open expressions of ideas, opinions, and a full discussion of differing points of view. Sound judgment and independent initiative.
- Ability to use appropriate judgment in maintaining confidentiality of information. Must possess excellent presentation and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Must be able to effectively multi-task, prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage critical issues in a dynamic environment. Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and manage a large volume of details while maintaining a big-picture perspective.
- Ability to influence without authority
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Travel as needed, ~15% with occasional international travel.
