Job Title: Litigation Paralegal
Litigation Paralegal is responsible for providing legal paraprofessional support to the insurance defense practice group. Responsibilities include managing litigation files from response to complaint through settlement or jury verdict.
Position Summary: Under the supervision of a licensed attorney, prepares legal drafts by assembling and organizing information for legal forms and documents, including complaints, declarations, discovery requests, responses, and other pleadings.
- Assist attorneys with the preparation of a civil case throughout discovery and prepare for, attend, and assist at trial.
- Be familiar with and understand medical terminology or ability and willingness to learn
- Review medical records and prepare detailed medical chronologies
- Review, manage, summarize, and synthesize records and data of all kinds in various types of cases
- Prepare deposition summaries
- Prepare subpoenas and non-party requests in both State and Federal Courts
- Prepare discovery requests to parties
- Manage and track responses
- Draft timelines and create other demonstrative evidence
- Prepare meet and confer correspondence
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel and able to learn other programs including document management systems
- Organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints with minimal supervision and exceptional attention to detail
Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and paralegal certificate from ABA approved program
- Minimum 3 years experience in a law firm
- Civil litigation experience required
- Experience with medical cases
- Familiarity with performing research tasks using web-based legal research services
- Experience working with paperless files. iManage experience a plus
- Must successfully pass a background/drug screen
