Location/Schedule:
Tallgrass has a flexible working environment that offers employees the option to choose from compressed weeks with half-day Fridays or every other Friday off and Hybrid options for specific roles. Our spacious Lakewood, CO office, has an on-site gym and food trucks twice a month! We currently can hire for this position out of the following locations: Lakewood, CO. The pay range listed for this position is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF OPERATIONAL STAFF ACCOUNTANT: The Operational Staff Accountant’s primary responsibility is to prepare journal entries, reconciliations, regulatory (FERC, EIA, and state agencies) and GAAP reporting to support the Natural Gas Accounting Department. The essential responsibility of this department is to provide accounting and analysis for the gross margin components.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare journal entries accurately and timely for monthly accounting close
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts
- Prepare state and federal reporting filed with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) quarterly and annually
- Support internal and external audits by preparing data requests
- Maintain regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance
- Will work non-traditional hours as needed
- Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the public
- Other daily, weekly, monthly, or special project duties as identified and defined
- Other duties as assigned or requested
JOB REQUIREMENTS OF OPERATIONAL ACCOUNTANT:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline
EXPERIENCE/SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:
- Must have a fundamental understanding of accounting and financial principles
- Introductory level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, and Outlook.

- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, verbal and written
- Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.

- Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on the qualifications, experience, and skill sets of the successful candidate.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- May be required to carry a cell phone, and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
- The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including a credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:
- One (1) to three (3) years of previous accounting experience
- Familiarity and experience with Oracle, Synthesis and/or Quorum (Connect) software is beneficial
- Intermediate/Advanced level in Microsoft Excel
