Logistics Specialist
Tate & Lyle is looking for a Logistics Specialist to independently interact with our North American 3rd Party Tollers on a daily basis providing quick reaction support and innovative solutions in support of ever-evolving customer needs. This individual will proactively execute and continuously improve upon existing logistics & manufacturing processes.

About the role
- In this role you’ll be expected to create relationships with our 3rd party tollers to smoothly manage quality, inventory, costs, expediting production, and ensuring the highest level of customer satisfaction. These 3rd party tollers perform services such as repacking, blending, grinding, milling, extrusion, and jet cooking. With strong knowledge and experience in manufacturing operations, packaging, and inventory control you will be responsible for interacting with 3rd party tolling personnel to ensure the entire team operates to the highest level of manufacturing, quality, and logistics standards. You will identify cost saving & efficiency improvements, create standard operating procedures for best practices, determine ideal packaging, and coordinate tasks with Tate & Lyle transportation, customer service, operations, procurement, and planning. As a team player you will be self-motivated, and able to independently prioritize tasks in a very complex and fast-moving environment.
More specifically, you will be responsible for:
- Managing service-related customer complaints root cause and corrective actions
- Managing & monitoring inventory accuracy & capacity
- Managing and monitoring demand vs tolling capacity
- Creating tolling information sheets outlining the details of BOM and tolling requirements
- Ordering, tracking, and monitoring replenishment of packaging and ingredients
- Coordinating testing on new packaging
- Coordinating new toller setups
- Coordinating removal of obsolete material
- Managing costs - including Invoice approval, accruals, and monthly spend
- Partnering with Quality to ensure completion of routine inspections and audits of facilities
What you’ll need to have:
- Multiple years' experience in food manufacturing processes and packaging
- Strong quality and food safety related knowledge and experience
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong inventory management skills
- Self-motivated and innovative.
- Ability to balance workload by multi-tasking
- Excellent customer service skills
- Proficient computer skills (MS Office, including Excel pivot tables, formulas, etc.)
- A degree in Supply Chain or Engineering with consideration to years of experience
- Willing to travel - 10% domestically in support of business requirements
Ideally you will have:
- Experience using SAP (Procurement functions, Business Warehouse, Business Objects)
- APICS Certification
- Six Sigma Green Belt Certification.
Location
This role is based from our Decatur, Illinois office but note that we are fully remote working until later this year, with only occasional travel into the respective offices for meetings, anticipated thereafter.
