BACKGROUND
Gunsmith I will be supporting the 548th DSSB Support Maintenance Company (SMC) Contract Logistics Support (CLS) at Fort Drum, NY.
This is a full-time four (4) year contract position with benefits available.
Hours of Operation: 0800 – 1630, Monday through Friday
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidate will perform detailed assembly, disassembly, inspection, maintenance, and minor repairs of both foreign and domestic small arms weapons. This role involves a working knowledge of basic gunsmith tools, operation of gunsmithing machinery, a strong understanding of shop safety procedures, and performing administrative tasks to support the shop's daily operations.
- Perform detailed assembly and disassembly of foreign and domestic small arms, including inspection, maintenance, and minor repairs.
- Utilize tools such as hammers, punches, files, stones, and gauges for assigned tasks.
- Assist with limited operation of gunsmithing machinery, such as lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, and associated tooling.
- Follow basic shop safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Conduct small arms and crew-served weapons maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Provide administrative support functions, including inventory management, work order processing, and record-keeping for the shop.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of small arms and crew-served weapons maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in the use of gunsmith tools, including hammers, punches, files, stones, and gauges.
- Limited knowledge of operating gunsmithing machinery (e.g., lathes, milling machines, surface grinders) and related tooling.
- Understanding of basic shop safety procedures and ability to work safely in a small arms environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical instructions for assembly and maintenance.
- Basic administrative skills to support shop operations, including managing records and reports.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
QUALIFICATIONS
- U.S. Citizen
- Ability to pass background investigation.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience and knowledge of:
- Small Arms and crew served weapons Fundamental Maintenance and Troubleshooting Skillset.
- Perform assembly and disassembly of foreign and domestic small arms weapons including small arms inspection, maintenance, and repairs.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $24.75 - $29.50 per hour
