Job Description

This role is preferably based in Perth, open to other locations. The Research and Policy Analyst will be responsible for researching chemical regulation in Australia for plastic chemicals either manufactured in Australia or imported into Australia in the form of goods, clothing, toys, packaging, and others.

The position will also coordinate a project to produce an international comparative review to understand other jurisdictions and the way plastic chemicals are regulated, and policy documents that support regulation. It is envisaged that this work will be outsourced but this candidate would manage the delivery of that work.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Research and write reports on recommendations to change chemical regulation in Australia to enable better regulation of plastics.  (including plastic manufactured or imported into Australia).
  • Project Manage – Plastic Regulation Reviews – EU, USA and other countries
  • Report on comparative analysis – Australia, EU, USA plastic or chemical regulation
  • Recommend international harmonisation strategies
  • Review policy where applicable to regulation in Australia, and other countries
  • Reply to government consultation from Australia specific to plastic chemical regulation
  • Support the Policy and Advocacy lead on Strategic Plan for Policy Plastic Chemical Regulation

Qualifications

Bachelor of Laws or equivalent

Additional Information

To be successful in this role you will have experience in legal research and policy development.

You have strong analytical skills along with strong communication skills both written and oral.

Ideally, you have worked in a similar role and have a legal or policy background in Chemical/Environmental Science.

Of vital importance is that you have a “can-do” attitude and be proactive in suggesting improvements or developing creative solutions to challenges and processes, you can adapt be flexible, and thrive on uncertainty!
