About the Role:

You will represent the Association’s interest in legislative and regulatory based advocacy efforts.  Monitor, review, and evaluate tax legislative and regulatory tax issues for assinged technical areas.  Work with and motivate assigned technical resource panels (volunteers) to maximize effectiveness, quality and productivity related to advocacy efforts. Develop professionally written advocacy-based positions and communicate those positions with IRS, Treasury, Congressional tax writing committees, other developers and administrators of tax policy, as well as with members and the public. Closely collaborate with other AICPA teams, particularly the Congressional and Legislative Affairs, and Tax Practice Management and Ethics Teams.  You will report to the Director of Tax Policy and Advocacy. 

Your Responsibilities: 

Tax Policy and Advocacy

  • Lead the development of well-written, timely advocacy positions (e.g. comment letters, position papers, testimony for Congressional and Internal Revenue Service hearings, and other advocacy documents) on legislative or regulatory changes in the assigned technical areas.

Manage Technical Resource Panels

  • Effectively manage technical resource panels to identify and monitor tax legislative and regulatory issues. Coordinate the development, review, and submission of approved advocacy positions (e.g. comment letters) in the assigned technical areas.

Outreach and Communications

  • Effectively coordinate and assist with the communication of timely and practical information about advocacy efforts related to tax legislative and regulatory developments in the assigned technical areas to help educate members and the public and promote advocacy efforts.

Broader Institute Initiatives

  • Support Association initiatives by reaching out to other Association teams and state societies, and interacting with outside organizations.  Foster communication and collaboration across the Institute.

Relationships

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key individuals in government (e.g. Internal Revenue Service and Department of the Treasury), Congress, state societies, and other organizations to promote tax advocacy positions and stay informed of emerging issues. 

About You:

  • Strong knowledge of federal tax law
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Knowledge of tax legislative and regulatory processes
  • Project management skills and proven ability to multi-task
  • Ability to deliver creative ideas to build or enhance Tax Division strategic initiatives
  • Capable of working effectively with a diverse group of individuals

Required Experience, Qualifications & Education:

  • Senior level experience in related fields 
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • CPA designation or equivalent certfication
