Job Requirements
- Provides oversight and is responsible for the team's management of all employment-based litigation matters, including class actions, in federal/state/provincial court, as well as charges/complaints filed with federal/state/provincial agencies, in accord with TD's Litigation Management Framework.
- Provides legal advice on all immigration and work eligibility issues impacting TD's workforce.
- Interacts with and provides counsel to TD's Global General Counsel, US General Counsel and senior leaders of the bank as the subject matter expert on employment-based matters.
- Provides counsel and training to Human Resources leadership, Employee Relations and Business Units on matters involving the application of Bank Policy, employee discipline, internal investigations, employee compensation/benefits, immigration, and leaves of absence.
- Provides oversight and direction to Human Resources on employee separation issues and prepares separation agreements as needed for executive and non-executive level employees.
- Provides support to the Office of the Chief Ethics Officer and Canadian Compliance on outside business activities, board appointments and political activity.
- Reports to the Co-Head of Global Litigation.
Qualifications
- Provides people management leadership by hiring the best talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing employee performance and compensation decisions, promoting teamwork and handling any/all disciplinary actions, as required
- Provides strategic and tactical direction and advice to AMCB executives as well as within the legal department
- Identifies and analyzes legal issues, draft key documents, makes recommendations, and assists to enhance legal compliance
- Provides ongoing advice to Managers and business lines regarding general legal and contract specific issues and risks
- Participates in structuring, negotiating and drafting of general business transactions (ranging from standard contracts to complex, high-dollar value transactions)
- Trusted legal advisor to business senior leadership team
- Escalates significant legal and regulatory compliance risk issues as appropriate
- Focuses on appropriate talent utilization and supports career development of team members
- Coordinates with the Legal Leadership team and other COLA groups to provide seamless advice to leadership and the portfolio businesses
Education & Experience:

- Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
- 10 Years' experience as an attorney
- Admitted in good standing to a state bar
- Licensed to practice law
- Legal expertise, experience & sound legal judgment
