Job Description
Job Goal:
To promote the academic and social-emotional development of each student using best practices through collaborative leadership. The principal serves as an educational leader who is responsible for managing policies and procedures to ensure a focus on student growth and learning.
Terms of
Employment: 230 days; salary to be established by the Board
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in school administration
- Valid Iowa principal’s endorsement, including evaluator’s license
- Previous leadership (administrative or teacher leadership) experience preferred
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

- Provides supervision and evaluation of daycare director, including routine meetings to discuss operations and needs.
- Leads the development and monitoring of the instructional program using best practices and data-driven decision making.
- Schedules classes within established guidelines to provide maximum instructional time to meet student needs.
- Initiates, designs, and implements programs to meet specific needs of the school.
- Uses data to drive instructional decisions and professional development.
- Works with the Building Leadership Team to design and implement professional development of school staff.
- Routinely conducts staff meetings to ensure strong communication and proper functioning of the school.
- Plans, organizes, and supervises State and District assessment administration.
- Maintains positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
- Recognizes accomplishments and achievements of students and staff.
- Responds to written and verbal requests in a timely manner.
- Assists in the development, revision, evaluation, and implementation of the curriculum.
- Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary.
- Assumes responsibility for his/her own professional growth by staying abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending meetings and conferences, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
- Participates in recruiting, screening, hiring, and dismissing of all professional, paraprofessional, and non-professional personnel assigned to the school.
- Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performance.
- Structures regular and systematic classroom observations to increase teacher effectiveness to ensure high quality performance from all staff members.
- Establishes positive collaborative relationships with the community to foster understanding and solicit support for school programs and objectives.
- Effectively communicates with staff, families, and the community to promote participation in school events and celebrate accomplishments.
- Prepares and submits the school’s budgetary requests, and monitors expenditures of funds to remain within total building budget.
- Prepares or supervises the preparation of state and federal reports, records, lists, and all other data collection required or appropriate to the school’s administration.
- Collaborates on school issues such as transportation, lunch services, and building maintenance.
- Supervises custodian to ensure routine upkeep and maintenance of the school facilities and maintenance of required records and reports pertaining to the building.
- Plans and supervises emergency and fire drills and an emergency preparedness program.
- Provides for adequate inventories of property and equipment for the security and accountability for that property.
- Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the school’s staff and students.
- Assumes responsibility for all official correspondence and news releases pertaining to the school.
- Serves on committees and attends meetings as directed by the Superintendent.
- Delegates duties and responsibilities when appropriate, including in the absence of the Principal.
- Informs the Superintendent of the school’s activities and issues.
- Maintains appropriate confidentiality in the operation of the school.
