Here's a summary of responsibilities:
The Law Clerk supports and assists the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) Legal Department. This opportunity will occur from May to September 2024 (exact dates flexible).
Here's how you'll have an impact:
- Perform research and write memos on legal matters.
- Support measures to protect the USOPC's intellectual property.
- Assist with National Governing Body and athlete issues involving the right to compete, compliance, anti-doping, athlete safety, disciplinary, commercial rights, and governance matters.
- Analyze, draft, and revise contracts.
- Assist in drafting policies and procedures to maximize operational efficiencies and provide legal guidance to the organization.
- Assist USOPC lawyers in carrying out the duties and functions of the Legal Department as needed. Subject matter areas may include marketing and intellectual property, labor and employment, dispute resolution, litigation, and legal operations.
Here are the skills and experience you'll need to be effective:
- Currently enrolled in a Juris Doctorate program, with an expected graduation date in December 2024 or later
- Coursework demonstrating an interest in non-profit, corporate governance, dispute resolution, mediation, negotiation, contracts, intellectual property, and sports law.
- Some experience in a legal setting
- Passion for sport and the ideals of the Olympic & Paralympic Movement
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Superior writing skills
