Teche Action Clinic, A Federally Qualified Health Center, per Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act, is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Billing Specialist in Franklin, Louisiana.
JOB SUMMARY:
Generates revenue by reviewing & posting charges to patients’ accounts; insure all charges are accounted for; assist patients’ in account inquiries; monitoring accounts for accuracy.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Researches all information needed to complete billing process including obtaining charge information from physicians
- Codes & corrects codes information about procedures performed and diagnoses
- Reviews and/or keys charge information into on-line entry program and produces billing
- Works with other staff to follow-up on accounts until zero balances
- Assists with coding and error resolution
- Contacting payers on denials and correcting claims for resubmission and payment
- Assists with answering the telephone, taking and relaying messages
- Maintains required billing records, reports and files
- Understands and observes organization policies regarding confidentiality and security of information
- Other duties may be assigned including special projects and provider enrollment tasks if needed
- Retrieve online remittance advices
- Posts all payments to patient accounts accordingly and in a timely manner
- Assist PSR’s with billing and account inquiries including but not limited to voiding payments posted in error and patient account inquiries
- Maintains information on encounters not received by providers and communicates this information with those providers
- Working assigned special projects as needed
- Participates in clinic activities designed to maintain quality and safe care for patients served by the facility
- Effectively communicates with the organization and with the community to provide quality services
- Supports, assists and adheres to implementation of the clinic mission and philosophy
- Serves as a resource when needed, including assisting in co-worker training and orientation
- Observes clinic policies and procedures
- Promotes a positive public image when representing the facility
- Participates in educational experiences designed to maintain competence
- Annually completes all required in-services and training (e.g. CPR< Infection Control, Safety, etc. as appropriate to the job)
- Opens and distributes incoming mail
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or GED, completion of a medical terminology course or equivalent prior experience demonstrating basic knowledge of medical terminology
Math Ability:
- Basic understanding of mathematics
Computer Skills:
- Understanding of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc)
Professional and Communication Skills:
- Must be able to communicate with patients and coworkers in a professional manner, follow basic instructions, work independently and as part of a team, be able to work with a deadline, be able to operate a fax machine, copier, adding machine and a multi-line telephone

Eligibility Requirements:
- All employees must meet eligibility standards in order to be considered for the position applying for. Internal applicants must be with be with the organization for at least one year, with no disciplinary actions on file. If you have not been with the organization for a year, approval from your direct supervisor will be needed.
