SUMMARY
Removes excess metal and surface defects from parts by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Selects abrasive belt or wheel according to grain size, type of finish specified, product being polished, or amount of metal to be removed.
- Attaches wheel or belt to drive mechanism.
- Starts polisher and manipulates work piece against abrasive wheel or portable wheel against work piece to remove metal and surface defects.
- Examines part for acceptability of finish by fit to overlay or caliper check.
- Maintains housekeeping and safety standards in work area.
- Additional duties as requested by management.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized form.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of blueprint reading, and geometric tolerancing.
- Use and knowledge of inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, CMM, height gages, and comparators.

The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; and sit. The employee must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. The employee frequently is exposed to extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
