We are seeking a Materials Process Engineer for our Research and Development Team.
Role is located in the San Antonio, Texas area and will require extensive travel to US plants located in South-South East Region.
Essential Job Functions:
- Support launching new programs and materials in tool shops, Teijin Automotive manufacturing plants, and outside customer sites.
- Molding evaluation of trial materials made by R&D, outside supplier or raw material manufacturing plants.
- Document all observations, take pictures, and issue in timely PowerPoint reports.
- Assist Sr. Materials engineer in launching new materials and new products by developing the process.
- Assist manufacturing plants in trouble shooting, root cause, and productivity improvement.
- Learn and use Black Box-special computerized instrument for monitoring molding.
- Understand, problem solve, and help optimize material and process issues at pilot and plant level.
- Train process Techs and other Teijin Personal Best Practices.
- Conduct tests, trials, and DOEs in the laboratory and manufacturing environment.
- Gather, refine, and relay information from engineering drawings and material specifications.
- Collect, organize, document, and analyze data into professional technical reports and present in meetings.
- Document and support development of manufacturing processes for molding and secondary operations.
- Learn new and unique test methods for evaluating of surface smoothness of Class A parts.
- Support and interact with business and material development for R&D, and internal customers.
- Coordinate and communicate with operators, supervisors, engineers, and managers while supporting.
- Follow all Teijin Automotive Technologies travel and safety guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials, or Chemistry is required with a preference to concentrations in organic/polymers and plastics sciences.
- At least two years of engineering experience – plastics is preferred.
- Experience with bonding equipment, paint application, compression molding presses, and vacuum systems is desired. Must be hands-on, an independent problem solver, and comfortable with changing tasks and work environments.
- Must be productive with minimal supervision.
- Good communication and interpersonal interface with all employees in a production environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Minitab
- Available to travel extensively (80% or more) to US Plants.
