The successful candidate will join an outstanding team of scientists and engineers responsible for research & development of novel solutions from a sample-centric perspective. This position will focus on graphene research to be used in sample preparation for electron microscopy.
What will you do?
Perform a variety of experiments with the objective to develop sample preparation techniques and characterize sample substrate cleanliness. Experiments typically involve wet etching, dry etching, and thermal treatments in ultra-high vacuum (UHV) chambers. Experiments will also involve analyzing surfaces on the micro/nanoscale.
Plan and perform Design of Experiment (DoE) on various steps of a substrate preparation process.
Perform analysis of results using scientific techniques and standard computer software (Excel, R, python, ImageJ, etc.).
Document research results in both written reports and Power Point presentations.
Develop and test new laboratory and instrument control software.
Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair laboratory equipment as necessary.
How will you get here? Education
PhD in physics, surface science, or chemistry.
Experience
An excellent grasp of fundamental physics, materials science and chemistry principles.
Experience handling and using graphene.
Demonstrated expertise with laboratory equipment and techniques including high voltage equipment, ultrahigh vacuum systems, and data acquisition systems.
Ability to troubleshoot equipment and implement solutions.
Sufficient hand-eye coordination to handle and work with small delicate objects.
Proficient with standard office computer programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).
Additional Desirable Qualifications
Experience with microscopy equipment: scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, focused ion beam systems, atomic force and surface probe microscopy.
Ability to analyze data using computer programming (Python, C , C#, or similar).
Be adaptable and flexible with changes to working environment and still deliver high quality results
Self-motivated with a genuine desire to learn and develop your skills
A team player who is open to feedback and works well within a larger group
