What are the responsibilities and job description for the Credit Manager position at TEL?
Working under and in collaboration with the Director of Credit, the TEL Credit Manager will create, maintain, enforce, and execute the policies and procedures which govern TEL’s collection activities in accordance with ethical and fair practices and in compliance with all laws and regulations. The TEL Credit Manager is responsible for the identification and collection of problem accounts from distressed or uncooperative account debtors across the company’s sales and operating divisions. The Credit Manager will also support new lease origination underwriting and other risk management responsibilities as business needs required. They must work well with the TEL Accounting and other departments to properly enter and maintain accurate books and records related to distressed and problem accounts and other payments and collection activities.
Positions Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain accurate and timely reporting on customer current and past due accounts and the collection activity of charged-off or reserved accounts.
- Manage vendor relationships with outside collection agencies, law firms, reporting bureaus, skip tracing services, and other entities supporting TEL’s collection and recovery efforts.
- Make recommendations for allowance for loss and bad debt reserves to TEL Accounting team members
- Work with distressed and delinquent customers to bring customers current or otherwise negotiate settlements to improve recovery of problem debts.
- Oversee contract enforcement for defaulted customers for all manner of breach of contract, event of default, and other terms and conditions of the lease contract including maintenance of existence and insurance requirements.
- Authorize legal proceeds and represent TEL in breach of contract and creditors rights litigation cases, calculate damages, and sign and affirm affidavits and other documents under oath for legal matters. Must be able to appear in court. Review all billings from attorneys retained for collection work.
- Identify and elevate any trends in customer profile or underwriting which may be contributing to problem accounts.
- Conduct lease underwriting and due diligence for lease opportunities with new and existing customers.
- Other duties as which from time to time may be assigned by the Director of Credit or TEL Executive Team
Knowledge Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of debt collection and credit rights laws, rules, and practices.
- Knowledge of Accounting and ability to use core management information systems (ex: KARMAK)
- Knowledge and experience in credit and financial analysis, cash flow analysis, business risk and credit risk rating methodologies and practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to establish and maintain a professional, tactful, and collaborative tone with distressed and adversarial parties using phone, email, and text communication.
- MS Excel experience required working with data sets, pivot tables, vlookup tools, and other functions
- Detail oriented and organized individual who streamlines process and workflow
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business Management required.
- Minimum of seven (7) years job related experience in commercial credit management and/or special assets; or a combination of experience and post graduate education as may be warranted.
