Job Title: Customer Service Specialist/Permit Technician

Classification: Non-Exempt

Department: Community Development Services Division

Salary Range: 30

Reports to: Building Official

Job Status: Full-time

SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The Customer Service Specialist/Permit Technician is responsible for a variety of administrative tasks, primarily acting as point of contact for all construction and environmental projects, for the Community Development Services Department (CDSD). In addition, this position provides administrative support for Planning, Road and Bridge, and Environmental Health departments as needed.

  • Interact with customers in person, by phone and via email to address their concerns, answer questions and assist with their needs. Volume can be heavy at times.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for all construction and environmental projects. Provide education to the public on allowable land development of properties.
  • Provide information and assistance to customers regarding permits, contractor licensing, permit fees, codes, requirements and regulations. Review all permit applications for completeness. Schedule building inspection requests.
  • Input data daily to insure proper record of changes. Track/update permit process including coordinating segments in which other Departments/Offices are involved.
  • Track progress of all permits, applications and inspections via computer.
  • Complete notifications to customers on all aspects of status/progress of projects as related to CDSD.
  • Receive and forward Code Enforcement issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Monitor contractor licenses, issue licenses and all attendant information, including insurance. Monitor licenses under revocation/suspension, and forward complaints about contractors to Board of Review Secretary.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as prepare correspondence, answer telephones, copying, emailing, collecting fees, record keeping, and file maintenance. Prepare packets for Board meetings and hearings.
  • Process bank deposits for CDSD. Accept payments, issue receipts, and maintain records of transactions.
  • Serve as liaison with customers, inspectors and governmental officials as necessary.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to build effective relationships as needed with employees, government officials, contractors, vendors and the public.
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer services. This include customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of and ability to remain up to date on applicable Colorado State Statutes and local regulations.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use various computer software programs, data bases, and general office equipment.
  • Ability to read maps and all types of plans.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Experience/Education: High school diploma or equivalent; two (2) years of customer service experience directly working with the public; any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.

Visual Acuity/Hearing/Speaking: Must be able to communicate effectively by means of speaking, hearing, and seeing.

Physical Effort/Dexterity: Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds; stand and sit for extended periods of time; drive a motor vehicle.

Environmental Factors: Work is normally performed in an office environment.

Work Schedule/Characteristics: 40 hours per week. Some flexibility of schedule may be required for special projects/deadlines.

License/Certification Requirements: Possession of a valid Colorado driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Pay: $1,543.00 - $1,697.00 per month
