Summary

This position is responsible for supervising hourly direct and indirect-labor employees and all manufacturing activities within assigned areas and for utilizing available resources in the most efficient and economical manner consistent with standard work procedures, work instructions, quality standards, and safety parameters.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate and supervise the activities of assigned personnel to efficiently and productively meet production schedules and to hold employees accountable for their performance
  • Utilize available resources to meet customers’ needs and established quality standards
  • Continuously monitor equipment and coordinate operational issues with Maintenance to ensure optimal machine up-time and minimal downtime

Job Duties:

  • Facilitate continuous improvement by leading the attainment of shop-floor Business Operating System (BOS) metrics to support the plant’s annual goals
  • Promote and enforce environmental, health and safety regulations and maintain a clean, orderly and organized floor in compliance with – and in support of – our 5-S Process for the specific purpose of reducing on-the-job injuries
  • Administer and enforce Company policies and plant rules and issue discipline as appropriate, in conjunction and coordination with the Human Resources Manager
  • Ensure effective employee/labor relations in a union environment, treating our people with dignity and respect and handling first-step grievances through appropriate answers in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Remain constantly vigilant for TVM opportunities and cost-reduction ideas and implement such actions that are deemed worthwhile in a timely manner
  • Participate in all applicable elements of the ISO 14001 and TS 16949 standards to ensure the plant is continuously prepared for internal and external audits
  • Coordinate production schedules with Production Planning to ensure 100% on-time deliveries to our customer base
  • Administer labor cards daily
  • Immediately report workplace illnesses and injuries to Human Resources and EHS
  • Understand roles and responsibilities during an emergency and be able to take control of the situation to protect property, personnel and equipment.
  • Work across boundaries to improve the business, empower people to grow and achieve and promote collaboration and teamwork across organizational lines
  • Anticipate and take proactive action to meet customer needs, continually seeking ways to increase customer satisfaction
  • Work effectively under stressful conditions, adjust to multiple and conflicting demands, demonstrate resilience under ambiguous and changing circumstances, modify behavior and properly plan to attain goals
  • Communicate clearly and effectively even when relating complex information, tailor the message to the audience, promote a free flow of information through the organization, listen actively
  • Gather relevant information systematically, consider a broad range of issues or factors, grasp complexities and perceive relationships among problems or issues, use accurate logic in analyses
  • Maintain current knowledge of the profession, functional area, and industry, access and use other resources when appropriate, utilize cross-disciplinary knowledge in evaluating issues/problems
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Ability to understand technical operating, service or repair manuals
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings
  • Working knowledge of gages such as dial calipers, micrometers, indicators, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to interact with employees in a professional manner
  • Ability to speak and write English fluently
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations such as percentages, fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division quickly and accurately

Work & Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED; college degree preferred 
  • Five – seven years’ experience in manufacturing supervision or related activity
  • Flexibility and willingness to work any shift and/or split shifts

Physical Demands

This position requires manual dexterity to properly and safely manipulate tools and controls. This position requires frequent walking and standing; occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
