What are the responsibilities and job description for the Team Leader position at Tenneco?
Responsible for organizing, assigning and overseeing production in his/her cell. This position leads the production team in meeting production schedules, facilitating the safe and productive manufacture of high-quality products, effectively driving and maintaining the standardized work process. The Team Leader is also responsible for developing team members and leading continuous improvement activities using lean manufacturing tools, including 5-S and waste elimination.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Organizes & holds safety meetings to carry out safety education, risk assessments, accident investigations & other related safety activities.
- Coaches team members on adherence to safety procedures, including correct use of PPE, daily safety checks and workplace inspections.
- Identifies, coordinates and resolves safety issues and facilitates Behavior-Based Safety observations.
- Assists EHS in drafting of Safety & Prevention procedures.
- Ensures team members adhere to standard operating procedures.
- Analyzes the cause of quality issues & formulates suitable action plans, including containment and preventative corrective actions.
- Assists in improving Poka-Yoke and quality assurance documentation.
- Allocates shift’s team members according to the production plan, training matrix, and skill matrix.
- Continuously tracks team performance and resolves any production abnormalities promptly.
- Effectively communicates with all team members and the next shift Team Leader any and all issues/concerns resulting from your shift’s operations.
- Provides timely and effective feedback to help Team Members to strengthen specific skills needed to accomplish a task or solve a problem.
- Escalates issues and/or successes of the cell to the Group Leader as necessary.
- Resolves problems during the launch period of new products & improve the production process.
- Implements the cyclical & monthly audit of the components in your production cell.
- Analyzes all inventory discrepancy & develops improvement action plans.
- Measures and optimizes the usage of MRO in the production cell.
- Organizes team members to perform daily checks and maintenance on their production equipment, fixtures & gauges.
- Assists in the improvement of tooling and modification of equipment.
- Assists in the audit of equipment & tooling for use in new products.
- Organizes & leads the team’s execution of the 5S plans, including housekeeping, making problems visible and standardizing activity for all Team Members.
- Develops the team’s 5S improvement plan.
- Implements the cell’s continuous improvement plan.
- Leads the implementation of the cell’s continuous improvement plan.
- Initiates, develops, leads and implements the continuous improvement plans.
- Provides standard & specialized training for new, transferred replacement or returned team members and renews and upgrades team members’ on-the-job skills.
- Trains & develops multi-skilled Team Members.
- Trains & develops backup.
- Other duties as assigned that are within the duties of a Team Leader level position.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- High school equivalent or higher education.
- Work experience in the automotive parts industry preferred.
SKILLS
- Understanding of lean manufacturing, waste elimination, problem-solving & 5S principles.
- Be able to use Microsoft Word & Excel.
- Able to read, write, and perform basic math skills (includes basic algebra, fractions, geometry).
- Must have the ability to carry out instructions, provided in written, oral or diagram forms.
- Basic understanding of TPM principles would be beneficial. Ability to operate, troubleshoot, make minor adjustments and/or perform preventive maintenance on metal bending, welding, forming, fabrication, and assembly equipment would be advantageous.
- Experience in effective use of quality control gauges/equipment, inventory systems, blueprint interpretation, computer applications, and SPC charting where applicable.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and product and process specifications.
- Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence.
TRAVEL
- Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected up to 10% of the time.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Vision abilities required include close vision.
- Exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles 90% of the time.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
Salary : $40,000 - $50,700
