ABOUT THE JOB
GIS Manager is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of a team of technical experts that produce geographical data using specialized computer systems. The manager is also responsible for ensuring the effective management of databases, maps, and/or graphs that can be combined with geographically referenced data; working with GIS software and programs that to relate different types of data, such as land use, land cover, environmental, infrastructure, and transportation networks. The manager will coordinate with various departments to prepare project objectives, analyze completed project work, and support team members in developing solutions to resolve all issues.
LOCATION
Onsite: Due to the nature of this role and Tepa's contractual agreement, this position is required to report to Fort Carson 5 days per week.
Job responsibilities
- Manage and oversees all geospatial and geographical information systems (GIS) related projects as assigned
- Manage teams of people (CAD, GIS, EOC, Field crews)
- Develop and outline work processes and procedures
- Stay up to date on all GIS software platforms and new technologies
- Information Technology understanding and partners with IT on GIS solutions
- Communicates with client to outline tasks and delivery schedules
- Develops estimates and proposals with specifics in geospatial solutions & technology
- Develops deeper relationships with current clients
- Demonstrated experience with GIS support for Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and the ability to support for extended periods
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in GIS or Geography from an accredited university or 6 years of experience with no degree
Preferred (not required):
- Masters in Geographical Information Systems
- Computer Science or IT background
Licenses and/or Certifications:
- Geographical Information Systems Professional (GISP) preferred
- At least 8 years working on geospatial projects
- Knowledge of geospatial software and techniques
- Be able to work individually and in large groups
- Process Driven
- Coordinate and work with the Information Technology group
- Communication with management and clients
- Must be able to pass background check for the purpose of obtaining a CAC
Work Environment:
- Occasional work performed in a non-climate controlled environment
- Constant work performed in a sedentary position
- Rare work performed while standing
