Job Summary: The Claims Examiner Manager for Standard Casualty Company is responsible supervising the Claims Examiners on a daily basis to ensure efficient workflow, accuracy and compliance by supervising claims examiners with coverage determinations, questions and ensuring timely reviews of open files. This position is also required to manage litigation claims and attorneys and supervise the investigation of complex claims. The Claims Examiner Manager will review coverages to determine the Company’s obligations for the claim and will ensure compliance with all company standards.
Core Responsibilities/duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Daily supervision of the claims examiners and implementation of on-going training on adjusting and policy coverage.
- Participate in the selection, hiring and training of new claims examiners
- Develop new programs to improve efficiency and workflow of claims examiners and communicate with staff and management regarding implementation of new programs.
- Participate in the Company Minor Initiatives program improving workflow and efficiency within the department.
- Analyze information received adjusters, insureds, contractors and others to determine the Company’s payment obligations for property and liability claims.
- Assist with monthly review of open claims and assignment of new claims to individual adjusters.
- Participate in monthly claims meeting and lawsuit log meeting.
- Review Insurance Department complaints and written complaints from customers.
- Communicate with adjusters, insureds and contractors to answer questions and receive information needed for the evaluation of coverage and loss determination.
- Approve payment of claims within the manager’s settlement authority by interpreting the policy and following Company guidelines
- Decline payment for claims according to Company guidelines and submit explanation letter to the insured.
- Supervise the investigation of complex claims
- Investigate and collect evidence on liability and property claims to determine the liability of insureds.
- Supervise the negotiation and settlement of claims within manager authority when appropriate.
- Manage litigation claims and attorneys
- Discuss and coordinate ideas with the Claims VP for claim adjuster productivity enhancements, improving efficiencies in adjusters and examiners and other plans to improve claims department
- Daily review and verification of any claims examiner timesheets and approve time-off requests for direct reports
- Communicate with individual staff on any work-related issues and determine corrective measures within Company Guidelines and Procedures.
- Secure the building/department once all personnel have left for the day
- Any additional duties assigned by the supervisor
Required job skills:
- Bachelor's of Science degree required
- Minimum of 4-5 years of Homeowner Property Insurance supervision/management required
- Xactware, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook and Excel spreadsheet proficiency
- Exhibit proficiency in reviewing adjuster work product to insured compliance with Company standards
- Must have ability to obtain Property and Casualty Adjusters license for all current and/or future states serviced by Standard Casualty Company
