Essential Function This position provides leadership and management to the team of creative designers. Works closely with Product Line Manager, Product Development, and Sourcing, providing the creative vision for the design of new and innovative KLIM’s branded products across all category segments. Contribute design skills and interpret new product concepts as needed to meet the needs of our customers within the scope product categories. Duties and responsibilities Lead the Design department and capability as well as, supports and participates in all applicable companywide initiatives. Mentor, train & develop other designers. Delegate tasks, monitor progress, and provide feedback. Trend Forecasting - Responsible for researching customer trends, buying habits and category trends in the marketplace. Includes shopping industry competitors, attending industry trade shows, visiting fabric mills, etc. to keep abreast of competitive forces and identify new styles and innovation. Drive the design and execution of all apparel and hard part classifications in partnership with the cross functional team (Merchandising, Production, Graphics, etc.). Innovation - Continually provide innovative, best in class product design solutions through technology, functionality, form, fit, etc. Works collaboratively to spur creativity, maintaining the goal of continuous product improvement and new product design. Product Creation/Development - Provide best in class design packages which include sketches, illustrations and multiple product views. Create designs of new products to present to the development team. Responsible for the creation of prototypes to be evaluated by the team. Emphasize cost effective garment construction while maintaining desired product attributes, quality and performance. Act as an advocate in the commercialization of new product elements to increase product benefit. Materials Research - Actively develops knowledge of all aspects of materials (Fabrics, Trims) and pursues continuous improvement regarding cost, style, and performance. Drive partnership and collaboration with Materials team to introduce new fabrics into the fabric library and to edit and evaluate fabrics. Color - Works to ensure cohesive color merchandising by proposing color palettes and assist in the seasonal color palette creation. Collaborates with team on a general color direction on a seasonal basis. Incorporates graphic elements. Proactively seeks opportunities to ensure trend right, relevant product and achieve the financial goals of the category while supporting the brand. Ability to conceptualize product from beginning to end & build a scalable process to lead designers through this process. Use trend intelligence and an understanding of the current and historical business to design a line that is relevant to the customer Develop big ideas, concepts and technical designs that achieve overall product strategy, quality and financial objectives. Create profitable, exclusive, owned-brand merchandise and manage designer partnerships Lead though innovative thought leadership and set inspiring vision for design function Assist with the development of creative direction, product strategy and product lines to achieve brand positioning and merchant objectives.
Drive financial results by providing design solutions for business opportunities that are differentiated from the marketplace and unique to KLIM, including business shifts, key initiatives, new product concepts and seasonal focuses
Department Budget Ownership Profitability: Design and Innovate in ways that increase realized Margins, through manufacturing efficiencies etc. Education/Experience Bachelors degree is required; preferably within Apparel or Industrial Design Requires 10 years Apparel Design experience within Powersports, Outdoors, Athletics and/or Lifestyle. This candidate must have well rounded experience with multiple design disciplines or industries- Ex: hard part design, apparel, powersports, lifestyle, technical, engineering etc. 3-5 year of direct people leadership experience is required; preferably as a cross-functional leader for multiple category segments. Proven ability to be a change management leader. Excellent understanding of function and end use. Knowledge of fabric, trim, and product development. Proficiency in Illustrator, Word, Excel, Outlook and Photoshop required. Experience with 3D design preferred. Strong knowledge of the design process including trend, forecast, color, fabrics, styling, construction and fit. Excellent leadership, communication and presentation skills Deep knowledge of technical design packages. Demonstrated high taste level and creative ability including strong color sense, pattern merchandising ability, commercial sense and market knowledge. Ability to research and apply market/trend information Demonstrated strategic thinking and problem-solving ability Strong organizational skills. Must current passport holder or able and willing to obtain US passport for international travel Working conditions Fast-paced, dynamic culture working an in-office schedule based out of the Rigby, Idaho location (onsite 3 days/week).
