We are seeking two Wildlife Field Technicians to work as avian and bat fatality monitors near Lexington, Oregon. Fieldwork includes working an average of 35-40 hours per week during the summer and fall seasons (July-November).
A five-month commitment is required.
The fieldwork begins July 2024 and continues through November 2024. The technicians will be responsible for their own housing throughout the study period and a vehicle will be provided for work-related travel and functions of the position.
The field study site is located near Lexington, Oregon, south of Hermiston and Pendleton.
Your Role :
- Implement a post-construction fatality monitoring program at an operational wind facility.
- Conduct fatality searches and carcass persistence trials, adhering to standardized protocols as trained.
- Keep detailed data records.
- Work independently or in small crews and effectively communicate with each other, offsite Tetra Tech supervisors, and site management teams.
- Follow all wind facility-specific and Tetra Tech safety protocols.
- Provide own suitable footwear (reinforced-toed hiking boots) and weather-appropriate field gear.
Qualifications :
- Pursuing a degree in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology, or an equivalent degree preferred.
- Must be able to identify eagles and other raptors.
- Good bird and / or bat identification skills for species in the region.
- Previous field experience preferred.
- Ability to walk for extended periods and handle exposure to weather extremes and interaction with bird and bat carcasses.
- Ability to work independently and with others, and interact positively with project managers, clients, and landowners.
- Experience with 4x4 vehicles, valid driver's license, and clean driving record.
- Skilled use of topographic maps, GPS units, and other field equipment.
- Ability to follow instructions from managers and collect precise and thorough data.
- Experience with electronic data collection protocols and data submission timing requirements.
- Skilled in communication, maintaining a positive attitude, and accepting guidance and constructive criticism.
- Travel time to the field site will be compensated for up to 2 hours roundtrip. Candidates residing within this distance are preferred but not required.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen in compliance with federal regulations, and a physical if needed.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Physical Demands & Work Environment :
- Ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing 35 lbs.
- Tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions.
Salary :
$25-$28 / hour, commensurate with experience.
