What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marketing Coordinator position at Texas A&M Foundation?

The Marketing Coordinator is responsible for the planning, development and production of digital, spoken and/or print communications that support and promote major-gift fundraising and donor engagement at the Texas A&M Foundation. This experienced and talented writer is responsible for communicating donor impact in a professional and engaging way, and for aligning communications with the Foundation’s voice and brand. This position also assists with the day-to-day operations of the department while reporting to the Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications.

Essential Functions & Major Responsibilities

  • Strengthen the case for individual and institutional support by translating the university’s philanthropic priorities into high-quality, effective communication and solicitation materials targeted at Texas A&M University former students and donors.
  • Write emotionally driven, audience-centric donor communications. Demonstrate the ability to translate objectives and messages that relate to the topic, speaker and intended audience.
  • Demonstrate the ability to diagnose and address flaws in grammar, vocabulary, tone and exposition for various written communications.
  • Write human-interest stories and features for the Foundation’s three print publications and e-newsletter and assist with editing and proofing content.
  • Participate in and contribute to editorial planning for the Foundation’s publications.
  • Write thank you letters and short-form copy for Foundation event invitations, emails,
    direct mail pieces, brochures, donor impact reports or proposals.
  • Collaborate on messaging and creative direction for Foundation print, digital and radio advertisements.
  • Write press releases about major gifts to the Foundation for distribution.
  • Assist in promoting the Foundation’s content via social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram. Contribute to planning and ideas for social media content.
  • Coordinate workflow and approvals of marketing materials from multiple internal and external parties.
  • Schedule photography shoots to support the Foundation’s written communications and provide creative input and direction.
  • Provide support for the Foundation’s external website and intranet as needed.
  • Positively engage with donors, students, and Foundation and university partners throughout the creative marketing process.
  • Engage with marketing student workers, including responsibilities such as assigning tasks and deadlines or editing articles.
  • Engage daily with department workflow tools, including Trello, Cvent and Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
  • Provide support for day-to-day operations of the marketing department such as maintenance of marketing archives and annual budget as well as logging marketing contacts.
  • Participate in the establishment and attainment of personal, departmental, divisional and organizational goals and objectives in support of the mission, vision and goals of the Foundation.
  • Perform special projects and initiatives as assigned.

Education, Training, & Experience

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English or related field.
  • At least 3 years of demonstrated success in marketing or communications role or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to proofread and edit for grammar and style.
  • Ability to think creatively about communicating an organization’s message and brand in appropriate tone and voice for intended audience across various communications.
  • Strong research instincts and interviewing skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including excellent listening skills.
  • Outstanding project management and prioritization skills with the ability to balance long-term projects and goals with faster turnaround tasks.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, including the ability to respond to internal and external constituents with tact, diplomacy and discretion.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications.
  • High level of integrity and demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in a professional manner.
  • Strong commitment to the mission and vision of Texas A&M Foundation with the ability and desire to serve as a compelling ambassador for the organization and Texas A&M University.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of AP Style guidelines.
  • Understanding of academic college or university setting.
  • Experience working with photographers.
  • Familiarity with the editorial process for publications, from content ideation to distribution.
