Texas Oncology is looking for a Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team! This position will support the Infusion Department at our 1901 S. 2nd Street locatio n in McAllen, Texas. Typical work week is Monday through Friday, 8:00a - 5:00p.
This position can be a level 1, 2 or Sr based on relevant candidate experience.

What does the LPN do? ( including but not limited to)
Under general supervision, provides general nursing care for patients following established standards and practices . Promote efficient patient flow, assists with patient care. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities:
The essential duties and responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Provides general nursing care to patients .
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
- Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids physician during examination and procedures.
- Observes, records, and reports patients condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.
- Administers prescribed medications as directed .
- Screens patients for appropriate information . Instructs patients in collection of specimen samples for testing .
- Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls . Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
- Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
- Performs EKG and oxymetry readings as required by physician .
- Obtains blood specimens from peripheral sites as needed and in accordance with OSHA and universal precautions.
- Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as required or directed by physicians.
- Maintains patient files, records and other information.
- Initiate IV fluids and IV therapeutic medications in accordance with LPN/LVN state nurse practice act
The ideal candidate for the LPN will have the following background and experience:
Level 1
- High school graduate or equivalent .
- Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing .
- This position is entry level and requires 0-3 years experience as a practical nurse.
- Phlebotomy experience preferred .
- Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing in practicing state .
- Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
Level 2 (in addition to level 1 requirements)
- This position requires at least 3 years experience as a practical nurse.
Level Sr (in addition to level 1 and 2 requirements)
- Requires a minimum of five years experience as a practical nurse in a hospital or clinic setting.
