Texas Regional Eye Center has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Surgical Counselor to join our Ophthalmology practice!
Our Surgical Counselor will be responsible for introducing and educating our patients on our cataract and LASIK surgery experience, reviewing expectations, discussing finances and scheduling surgery. They will interact with all surgical patients, physicians and clinic teams.
Candidates do not need to have a background in ophthalmology, as we are ready to provide in-depth training. However, applicants need to be proficient in computers, present themselves in a professional manner, have a strong desire to learn and the ability to multi-task.
The most important quality we are looking for in a candidate is an enthusiastic and warm personality, with a willingness to learn everything about our procedures, and the ability to communicate effectively. Candidates with a sales background are preferred, as well as a knowledge of medical insurance.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct private interviews either in person or via phone with the patient and family to schedule surgery and any necessary pre-operative testing.
-Maintain strong knowledge of all procedures and their purpose
- Educate patients on the benefits of elective refractive options in cataract surgery
- Prepare and obtain written consent for procedures
- Discuss insurance and personal financial obligations; initiate financial arrangements for patients as necessary.

Requirements:
- Prior ophthalmic experience is preferred
- Strong knowledge of medical insurance is preferred
- Previous sales background
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
- Must present a professional image and demeanor
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to provide compassionate and patient-centered care
- Strong attention to detail and proficiency in computers
