Job Summary
- Designs, develops, implements and oversees the organization's environmental, health and safety programs and procedures to safeguard employees and visitors
- Conducts employee, contractor, vendor, and visitor training on applicable safety standards including, but not limited to: Chemical Hazard, Bloodborne Pathogens, Biosafety, Emergency Response, etc.
- Drafts and implements internal safety standards and policies
- Reviews accidents and incidents reported by the employees and visitors
- Execute proactive benchmark assessment and risk assessments ensuring proper controls (engineering, administrative, and personal protective equipment (PPE)) are developed, implemented, and maintained to protect the staff, visitors, and the environment from workplace hazards
- Ensure compliance and reporting to federal, state, and local municipalities; maintain records of all agency filings
- Ensures employees in functional areas follow established procedures and comply with federal, state and local regulations.
- Reviews safety training and implements revisions, improvements and updates
- Maintains safety training records
- Responsible for chemical inventory, spill kits, incident reporting/investigation procedure, emergency response, medical surveillance, exposure control plan, chemical hygiene plan, hazards communications, waste management, personal protective equipment (PPE), safety inspections, regulatory audits, etc.
- Assure that all units are properly equipped and that personnel within each unit are trained and supervised to perform duties safely
- Coordinate service maintenance agreements and custodial contract to ensure facilities are equipped, kept up to standard, and functional
- Organize equipment relocation and disposal of hazardous waste
- Ensures that scheduled and periodic cleaning of equipment is performed in accordance with Texcell - North America, Inc. SOPs
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum requirements
- Experience in a BSL-2 biotechnological environment
- Extensive knowledge of company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standards
- Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or related field
- Minimal 2 years experience
- Health and Safety certification preferred
- Experience with GXP laboratories
- Able to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Able to walk the facility and wear proper PPE
- Strong organization, leadership, and attention to detail
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
