Route Supervisor
The Route Supervisor is responsible for the safe, timely and efficient coordination and oversight of all trash and recycling collection drivers and collection trucks with the goal of completing all routes and stops in a safe and timely manner.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledge of DOT, FMCSA rules and regulations
- Microsoft Outlook, Excel, & Word; familiarity with logistic database systems a plus
- Knowledge of local area roads and highways
- Trash and recycling industry
Ability to safely operate commercial vehicles over 26,001 lbs. and over
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing to customers, subordinates and management as required
Ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally
Possess supervisory and intrapersonal skills with the ability to organize and delegate work responsibilities as necessary
Ability to work independently to achieve goals
Ability to work in a production environment, including hot, cold, wet and/or dusty environments
2 or more years of supervisory experience
High School Education or equivalent
CDL (Commercial Driver’s License)
- Assign trucks with their keys, and route keys
- Print route sheets for front load, roll off, commercial rear load and commercial automated routes.
- Brief drivers regarding “hot list” items, as well as other issues including service stopped, time stops, and gates that require special attention.
- Continually account for all trucks and drivers on the road including their location, problems, downtime, lunch breaks and dispatch drivers as needed.
- Maintain data on all driver personnel on a daily basis including 16 front load routes, 3 rear load routes, 3 Lincoln military routes, 1 Suffolk route, 1 container delivery driver, 6 roll off drivers and “hot list” item data in I Pak.
- Assign all work orders for South Hampton Roads
- Assign extra pickups as required
- Ensure all missed stops are picked up
- Ensure all drivers are properly checked back in after completion of their routes with no missed stops.
- Maintain spreadsheets with assistance from data input clerk as listed below. Enter data in absence of data clerk

- City of Chesapeake house count and tonnage on a daily and monthly basis
- City of Chesapeake schools ranking
- City of Virginia Beach tonnage for payroll and drivers
- Daily staffing report of all front load, roll off and rear load drivers for payroll purposes
- Weekly Vanue[RH1] report (Accomack)
- Duck & Southern Shores report for Janet and payroll
- Lincoln Military daily report with weekly copies to Jay Thompson
- Coordinate shipments of third-party material
- Coordinate disposal of trash material with landfills
- Training of all staff and employees in conjunction with operational needs, compliance and safety requirements
- Effectively conduct all accident or injury investigations
