Job Description
Job Title: Assistant Store Manager
Department: Retail
Reports to: Store Manager
SUMMARY
Assists management in the day-to-day operation of the Root Candles West Liberty Commons Retail
Store, RootCandles.com, and RootCandles.ca.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 1. Works directly with the Store Manager and Retail Director in the areas of merchandising, operations, customer service, internet shipping, and human resources within the Retail Department to implement
Retail action plans and improve operating results.
2. Acts as the manager on duty to address customer service, vendor, or maintenance issues.
3. Assists in training new team members on all company policy and procedures. Coach, develop, and maximize the success of all associates.
4. Manages Root Candles product orders within WLC/ Internet, store supplies and bank change orders.
Ensures all store displays, product stock, and supplies are properly maintained.
5. Manages, assists and directs all Sales Associates during daily store shifts. Ensures store personnel adhere to inventory procedures and cash control policies to minimize losses. Ensures direct reports complete assigned responsibilities in a timely and effective manner to provide the highest level of customer service for the business.
6. Continuously learns about merchandise, including, but not limited to; reading catalogs, packaging, and information enclosed with products in order to accurately answer questions and inform customers and Sales Associates about company product lines.
7. Perform opening and closing routines including execution of bank deposits and daily receipt of shipments.
8. Ensures that merchandise and displays are neat, well organized, and presentable to customers. Moves and dismantles displays as directed by the Store Manager and Retail Director.
9. Manages all aspects of internet order processing including placing product orders, working directly on the shipping line as needed, and customer follow-up.
ADDITIONAL DUTITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Represents the Root Candles Retail Department on various inter-company committees.
2. Represents Root Candles on various community committees i.e. Main Street Medina, Candlelight
Walk planning committees.
3. Helps manage and organize annual inventory.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS listed below are indicative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to be successful in this position.
Education, Training and or Experience
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Two years of Retail leadership experience as an Assistant Manager or Store Manager or two years of Customer Service leadership experience.
Personal Skills and Abilities
- Proven ability to drive sales results
- Strong communication and ability to foster a customer focused selling culture
- Ability to work without supervision
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle problematic customer or team member situations with a calm demeanor

7. Must be able to distinguish colors and smells of candles/products to successfully assist customers or Sales Associates.
