What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bartender position at The Abbey?
We are looking for individuals who are passionate about hospitality, gastronomical experience, and collaborative culinary experimentation. The Abbey is a new (coming early December, 2023) craft coffee and cocktail bar located in Brunswick, ME. Our deep appreciation for the history of food and beverage as an expression of love is the driving force behind The Abbey.
Experience is welcome, but doesn't matter as much as finding the right person. As a bartender, you must be able to create classic cocktails and espresso drinks as well as collaborate with our owners to create innovative drinks that pair well with our menu. You will be expected to provide memorable experiences and exceptional hospitality to our customers.
Because we are a new business, we estimate pay ranging from $20-40 an hour ($10/hr plus tips) with an expected increase in the summer months.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide table and/or bar service
- Answer menu questions
- Make drinks and/or drink recommendations
- Maintain table/bar appearance and cleanliness
- Perform side work and end-of-shift closeout tasks
- Excellent knowledge of mixing, garnishing and serving of traditional and creative cocktails
- Ability to recommend wine, beer, cocktails to customers based on their flavor preferences
- Ability to enforce company policies regarding the consumption of alcohol
- Serve guests responsibly to ensure they are safe
- Bar setup, stock and replenish bar inventory and supplies
- Create and maintain a respectful and inclusive environment
- Other duties as required
Requirements and Qualifications
- Prior serving/bartending experience a plus
- Business casual appearance
- Knowledge about classic cocktails and espresso and/or a willingness to learn
- Knowledge about wine and beverage pairings
- Attention to detail
- BABLO/TIPS certification for alcohol required per Maine State Law.
