POSITION DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Pittsburgh Math Motivators Program Coordinator (20 hr/wk part-time contract position)

JOB SUMMARY: The Pittsburgh Math Motivators Program Coordinator is a paid part-time position with the primary role of serving as the key contact person for Math Motivators program in Pittsburgh, PA and, possibly, other designated surrounding cities. They will coordinate the logistics, communications, training and resources for the tutors as well as manage relationships between the tutors, universities, schools/tutor centers and The Actuarial Foundation. In addition, the Program Coordinator will aid the Math Motivators Leadership Team in assessment, evaluation and expansion of the local program. The Pittsburgh Math Motivators Program Coordinator will receive guidance and support from the Regional Program Coordinator and/or other members of the Leadership Team to accomplish their responsibilities. In addition, the Pittsburgh Math Motivators Program Coordinator may be expected to provide additional administrative and scheduling support to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Coordinator on an as-needed basis.

Primary Roles & Responsibilities:

1. Interaction with schools/organizations: Attend preliminary planning meetings with key school/organization personnel to discuss the set-up of the programs, specific help needed, format, etc. Ensure schools/tutoring centers are a safe environment for tutors when tutoring takes place in person. Understand, communicate and monitor the school/organizations volunteer background check policy to ensure all Math Motivators volunteers have met the requirements. Monitor ongoing sessions and gather feedback from teachers and tutors to assess what is working and what is not. Schedule and host Zoom and Google Meet virtual tutoring sessions, as necessary, and be able to assist tutors with virtual learning tools associated with these platforms. Partner with appropriate school/organization contacts to conduct assessments and/or gather data to gauge the success of the program.

2. Management of volunteer tutors: Partner with Math Motivators Program Implementation Specialist to obtain resources and additional material to assist volunteers with tutoring various topics, when needed. With help from Math Motivators Regional Program Coordinator & Implementation Specialist provide training and tutoring tips to volunteers to help them feel comfortable and confident in their tutoring skills. Mentor tutors, and lead by example to fill in as a tutor as needed. Provide survey opportunities or regular correspondence to check in with tutors to ensure their experience is positive and their time is being used effectively. Survey volunteers to determine availability and preferences to best meet the requested schedules and number of tutors needed at the schools/organizations. Become proficient and effective at use of volunteer management database software for scheduling sessions, communicating with volunteers, and creating reports of volunteer activity and hours. With assistance from the Regional Program Coordinator and other members of the Math Motivators Leadership Team plan for and make presentations at volunteer recruitment meetings at colleges and local corporations. Help Regional Program Coordinator and/or national team plan networking and volunteer appreciation events.

3. Support Program Expansion Research with ways to expand the Math Motivators program to new schools/organizations in the assigned region. Initiate contact with and evaluate potential new schools/organizations. Look for opportunities to expand the program to reach more students at each school/organization, such as introduce and promote other TAF programs (i.e., Money Mentors (financial literacy), Modeling the Future, Scholarships, etc.).

4. Serve on TAF Math Motivators subcommittees, as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or a mathematics-related field (science, actuarial science, computer science, engineering, mathematics education, etc.) preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

· Math content expertise

· Math tutoring experience

· Volunteer management experience

· Excellent oral and written communication skills

· Ability to make objective decisions using sound judgement

· Strong customer service acumen

EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM THE JOB

· Standard office equipment

· Ability to travel weekly to the schools in surrounding area

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Salary: $25.00 per hour
