Job Summary
The Systems Engineering Division (SED) provides unmatched experience in systems engineering to the U.S. government and to numerous public and private agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations, consortia, and commercial companies involved in the advanced application of space technology. From systems architecture development to system analysis and optimization, astrodynamics, orbital debris, navigation, failure analysis, mission assurance, cost and schedule assessment, and economic market analysis, SED exploits an incredibly broad array of engineering and business disciplines against a diverse and dynamic portfolio of programs and national challenges.
The Systems and Operations Assurance Department provides expertise in Quality Engineering for activities associated to the design, manufacturing, integration, and testing of space systems hardware. We’re looking for a motivated candidate to join our high-performing and collaborative team to help evolve our capabilities to meet the technical challenges of tomorrow. The position requires a solid understanding of QA requirements and the flexibility to apply fundamental Quality Engineering skills and concepts across a typical program lifecycle. This role will be the department’s primary interface with the program offices in Chantilly, VA, and may involve coordinating technical resources within our engineering matrix or other organizations.
What You’ll Be Doing
- A solid understanding of QA requirements and the flexibility to apply fundamental Quality Engineering skills and concepts across a typical program lifecycle.
- Develop innovative methods to effectively apply Quality Engineering expertise across entire program lifecycles
- Identify and evaluate risks, trade-offs, and mitigation plans for tailored QA requirements
- Employ a rigorous and methodical approach to problem-solving and identifying root cause
- Develop and execute process and product assessments and audits from the planning stage through verification of corrective and/or preventive actions
- Deliver independent, data-driven technical advice to management and customers through effective verbal and written communication
- Travel to customer and/or government facilities while representing the company and department in a professional manner
This position is available as an Engineering Specialist (L2) or Senior Engineering Specialist (L3)
What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements for (L2):
- B.S. degree in engineering or related field in science from an accredited institution
- Minimum of eight (8) years of technical experience as a Quality or Manufacturing Engineer in aerospace-related manufacturing
- Experience with QMS standards including ISO 9001 and/or AS9100
- Experience with workmanship standards including IPC J-STD-001 and NASA 8739.x series
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and nonconformance reports
- Ability to travel to contractor and/or government facilities
This position requires a current and active TS/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
Minimum Requirements for a Sr. Engineering Specialist(L3):
- A minimum of twelve (12) years of technical experience as a Quality or Manufacturing Engineer in aerospace-related manufacturing
- Experience as a manager or lead in Quality and/or Mission Assurance
- Experience leading and managing projects and studies
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program offices and customers
