Position: Bus Aide
The Arc of Union County, Inc. is a non-profit, 501c(3) organization headquartered in Springfield, NJ, dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Arc serves more than 1,000 adults and children each month from the 21 towns in Union County, as well as the greater Northern and Central NJ counties
Summary: This position is non-exempt. As assigned, the Transportation Services Aide is responsible for assisting all assigned consumers on and off agency vehicles and to their destination in the course of transporting them to and from agency approved locations. This position is responsible for assisting with the safe transportation to participants destinations in a timely, competent manner. Knowledge and support of the mission and values of The Arc of Union County are important to successful performance, as are commitment to and demonstration of a spirit of teamwork.
Major Position Responsibilities
· Report to work on time and follow assigned schedule and agency clock in/out procedures.
· If applicable the aide is responsible to assure any seat belts, wheelchair tie-downs or other safety devices are in place.
· The aide must monitor the consumers on their assigned run to insure order is maintained.
· In cases of crisis or emergency, the aide must intervene in a safe and calm manner to restore order and assist consumers in any emergency needs they may have.
· The aide is responsible to assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the interior of the agency vehicle.
· Aides are responsible to adhere to all agency policies and procedures and attend any agency required training’s.
· The aide may at times be assigned to drive an agency vehicle to transport consumers as needed.
· The aide is required to immediately report any unusual occurrence or incident regarding the consumers or staff. This report must be on the agency-approved form for reporting of incidents.
· Must successfully complete all required trainings, workshops or seminars as assigned.
· Must fully cooperate in any investigations internal or by a duly authorized external agency regarding service delivery/individuals served.
· Must be able to apply appropriate physical intervention techniques when required in accord with agency policy.
· This position requires long periods of sitting and may require operating, manually or otherwise, wheelchair lifts, doors, etc. for the purpose of transporting our consumers.

Skills: Having some familiarity, knowledge or experience in Social Supports Services/Individuals with developmental disabilities a plus. Willing and able to learn all areas of support service and function outlined herein. Must be able to successfully complete all required training programs and be able to follow directions and complete all assigned responsibilities.
Qualifications: Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Must be 18 years of age or older. Willing to learn or some familiarity, knowledge or experience in Social Supports Services for Individuals with developmental disabilities. Required a Valid New Jersey driver’s license and abstract (not to exceed 5 points), and ability to meet agency insurability requirements. Complete all agency required State/Federal Criminal Background checks and Central Registry checks. . Experience with transportation services preferred. Must successfully pass Agency approved CPR and First Aid trainings within three months from date of hire.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: verbally communicate with others, maintain a stationary position (standing and sitting), move/traverse, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms for extended periods of time, lift up between 10 lbs and 35 lbs, maneuver an occupied wheelchair, (navigate a Hoyer lift and or drive a 6 person passenger van - depending on the position).
In order to effectively perform the essential functions of this role, the employee will be required to meet an array of physical demands to include ability to hear and repeat information, take notes, read documents, carry files and or paper materials and other physical duties as directed by your supervisor and/or Director. Agility with wrist and finger dexterity to access, key and sort electronic information or to file documents required.
