The Arc of Union County, Inc. is a non-profit, 501c(3) organization headquartered in Springfield, NJ, dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Arc serves more than 1,000 adults and children each month from the 21 towns in Union County, as well as the greater Northern and Central NJ counties.
Summary: This position is non-exempt. This position is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of an assigned group of individuals to and from locations determined by the agency. In addition, this position is responsible for the upkeep, including cleanliness and regular maintenance of any assigned agency vehicle and related equipment including safety, emergency, and first aid equipment.* This position is responsible for assisting with the safe transportation to participants destinations in a timely, competent manner. Knowledge and support of the mission and values of The Arc of Union County are important to successful performance, as are commitment to and demonstration of a spirit of teamwork.
Hours: 7 A to 10 A and 2 P to 5 P
Major Position Responsibilities
The driver is responsible to operate all agency vehicles in accord with all applicable state, local and or federal legislation as well as within agency guidelines. Reports to work on time and follows assigned schedule and agency clock in/out procedures
Completion of a pre-trip and post-trip inspection of each vehicle assigned each time an agency vehicle is used. Forms must be completed and turned in on a monthly basis.
Maintain the vehicle in clean and safe condition inside and out and immediately report any vehicle mechanical or other problem to the coordinator, supervisor or director.
Drivers are responsible to adhere to all agency and transportation department procedures.
Participate in and successfully complete all assigned and/or agency required trainings and effectively implement the information provided.
Anyone driving an agency vehicle must maintain a driving record that will enable him or her to be insured under the agency insurance liability policy.
Report any unusual occurrence or incident regarding the consumers and/or staff immediately on an agency approved form. This form should be forwarded to the director of the department.
Skills: Having some familiarity, knowledge or experience in Social Supports Services/Individuals with developmental disabilities a plus. Willing and able to learn all areas of support service and function outlined herein. Must be able to follow directions and complete all assigned responsibilities.
Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum of three years driving experience, current and valid New Jersey Driver license and a good driving record. Must meet agency and insurance carrier insurance eligibility requirements. Must have minimum 20/40 correctable vision in both eyes. New Jersey driver’s abstract (not to exceed 5 points), and ability to meet agency insurability requirements. Complete all agency required State/Federal Criminal Background checks and Central Registry checks. . Experience with transportation services preferred. Must successfully pass Agency approved CPR and First Aid trainings within three months from date of hire.
