Job Description
Title: Administrative Ambassador/Barista
This position will serve both The Avenue Foundation and The Avenue Coffeehouse & Café.
The Avenue Foundation (TAF), named to pay homage to the rich history and culture of Indiana Avenue, was founded to build racial and economic equity, and empower the Black community in Central Indiana to create generational wealth. The Avenue Coffeehouse & Café is a subsidiary of The Avenue
Foundation. The café is a community gathering space committed to inspiring social change and transforming lives and community through food, art, music and culture.
As part of The Avenue team, the Administrative Specialist, advances the organization's mission by supporting the day-to-day operations of the Foundation, ensuring efficient and effective operations, partners with staff to ensure success of events and programming, and provides administrative support to the Executive Director and other staff as needed.
This is a full-time position that requires the selected individual to work in office, remote and in the community.
The Administrative Specialist/Barista reports directly to the Executive Director and Operations Manager.
Administrative Ambassador:
- Provides administrative support to the Executive Director and other staff as needed.
- Assist the foundation’s board with administrative needs including meeting scheduling, communications
- Manages and monitors events calendar for the coffeehouse and fields rental requests.
- Creates and manages systems, workflows, policies and procedures for the foundation and coffeehouse
- Maintain up to date records of all vendors, contracts, business contacts, donors, and constituents for the organization.
- Create and send communications on behalf of the organization to external partners and donors.
- Maintains and files confidential records, such as employee records, contract negotiations, grant materials, financial documents, and any notes and data related to those files.
- Ensure that all office facilities and equipment are operational and order supplies as needed.
Submit equipment maintenance/repair as needed.
- Conducts foundation related research, prepares reports and other documents.
- Manages job postings and new employee onboarding
- Maintains office supply inventory
- Serve as a positive ambassador of The Avenue Foundation and The Avenue Coffeehouse in the community.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Barista:
- Greets customers, take orders, create and serve hot and cold beverages such as coffee, espressos, cappuccinos, lattes, teas, blend drinks, etc. while considering customer specifications.
- Works to maintain good customer relations and speedy delivery of all beverages and food items.
- Arranges coffee bar supplies and cups/mugs to make attractive displays.
- Maintains coffee bar area in a neat and sanitary manner.
- Often cleans coffee machines, café areas, kitchen, restrooms, and prep areas.
Qualifications:
- 3 years experience as an administrative/executive assistant, office manager, or comparable position, preferred.
- High school diploma/equivalency required.
- Proven ability to organize, coordinate, and implement multiple projects simultaneously
- Must be able to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality in carrying out daily responsibilities
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite
- Maintains strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exhibits strong interpersonal skills in a variety of contexts and maintains the utmost confidentiality
- Demonstrates the ability to adapt to a changing environment
- Willingness to be open to learning and growing
- Strong commitment to community development, racial equity, LGBTQ and restorative justice.
- Understanding of power, privilege and systems of oppression.
- Knowledge of the history of Indiana Avenue.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 40 pounds.

Salary: $37,500 annually
Schedule: Your availability must be flexible. Varying schedule to include evenings, holidays, weekends and extended hours as business dictates.
