What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pastry Chef/Cafe Manager position at The Baker and the Cakemaker?
The Baker and the Cakemaker is a locally owned bakery and café. We create handcrafted breads, pastries and cakes, serving them along with fresh, locally-sourced farm-to-fork products. We’re looking for an experienced pastry chef & café manager to join the team and help lead day-to-day operations. This is a key role with broad responsibilities. Requirements include:
- Pastry training and demonstrated ability required; culinary training highly desirable
- Café/restaurant experience, FOH & BOH
- Strong knowledge of pastry arts, food production, coffee preparation, and POS systems
- Ability to work early mornings & Saturdays
- Excellent leadership, team management, training and mentorship abilities
- Positive, engaging personality
- Extraordinary customer service skills
- Able to lift 50 pounds and to stand for prolonged periods
- Responsibilities include:
- Ensure café operations are running smoothly and effectively and that customers are being served efficiently
- Ensure BOH cleanliness & tidiness; name cleaning projects as needed
- Give input on prep list/amounts to make for the day
- Give input on daily production list with production managers
- Help make soups to ensure quality
- Help w/baking on busy production days; assist with cake decorating if needed
- Help run ovens w/production manager as needed
- Give input on future croissant, quiche, & soup flavors
- Check-in w/FOH manager re. daily orders, training baristas, cleaning projects, and any changes needed for the day
- Help department managers w/checking-in deliveries, verifying quality and quantities, and putting away
- Take monthly inventory
- Place daily produce and weekly dairy & farm orders, taking micro-inventory as needed
- Plan menu changes
- R&D - plan for upcoming holidays
- Help take cake orders, answer calls, answer customer questions.
- Help department managers train new employees, and train current employees on new products
- Review prior day sales, gather info about sales patterns; give input to adjust numbers for next day/week
- Paperwork as needed
- Check/return emails (unique events, sandwich/lunch orders, vendors, etc.)
- Identify printing needs - menus, lists, order forms, etc.
- Social media - check & answer messages daily, take photos & post, etc.
