Definition of Class

To assist the Director in the strategic planning, development, performance, and promotion of Center activities and events, materials, programs, and research and to serve as the primary liaison to industry, academic centers, government officials, and non-profit groups by building supportive relationships for the public-facing, educational, and research activities of the Center. This position has opportunities for promotion as well as advancement into an Associate Director role with the growth of The Center for Practical Ethics and the expansion of its programs. The incumbent works in a public-facing role organizing events and/or producing materials for non-academic audiences.

Examples of Work Performed
  • Research potential contacts and organizations on topics related to planned or upcoming Center activities.
  • Research and monitor trends on educational, public-facing, and research topics at other centers nationwide.
  • Attend academic conferences to keep abreast of developing research and network with faculty and researchers in applied and practical ethics.
  • Represent the Center at various conferences, lectures, and other events (e. g., chairing sessions, introductory/welcome speeches, discussant/panelist, presentations).
  • Lead meetings to develop collaborative projects with internal and external partners.
  • Participate in the development and updating of strategic plans, workflow files, and timelines.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of the Center’s public-facing, education, and research events.
  • Track engagement and attendance on events and activities for future planning; monitor trends and make suggestions on topic selection.
  • Participate in the planning and creation of Center materials (e.g., website, brochures, videos, trainings, educational materials).
  • Liaison with marketing designers and content producers (e.g., videographers) for the promotion of Center events, projects, and activities.
  • Research possible grant funding sources for research activities.
  • Coordinate research teams from interest networks, schedule meetings, develop draft deadlines, manage submission and publication.
  • Participate in the development of grant applications (e.g., research, draft writing) as needed and per relevant expertise.
  • Collaborate on research drafts as needed and per relevant expertise.
  • Supervise, train, and coordinate tasks for assigned support staff and/or student workers.
  • Fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the Director in his/her absence.
Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  • Create partnerships and coordinate research networks with industry, academic centers, government officials, and non-profit groups.
  • Manage the development and production of research projects.
  • Lead the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of key Center activities, programs, and projects.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to supporting staff and/or student workers.
Minimum Education/Experience

Education:

Master’s Degree in Philosophy (ethics, applied ethics, and/or public philosophy) from an accredited college or university.

AND

Experience:

One (1) year of experience related to the above described duties.
