Responsibilities

As a Senior Underwater Acoustics Physicist, the candidate will play a critical role in the development and understanding of acoustics in oceanic environments, acoustic sensing, and novel acoustic measurement and detection methods. The candidate will work closely with a team of engineers and physicists to conceive, model, design, develop, and characterize prototype water-based acoustic sensors, systems, and technology platforms.  Experience using or interpreting sonar data and field testing underwater acoustic devices is highly desired.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A degree in acoustics, acoustical engineering, physics, applied physics, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in acoustics (modeling, simulation, beam forming, sensor design, and/or system implementation and testing) is required.
  • Strong background in acoustic physics, underwater environments, and multiphysics modeling, along with the ability to capture, understand, and model physical phenomena, is required.
  • Strong competency in a computing environment such MATLAB, Python, Mathematica, or similar is required.
  • The individual must be highly self-motivated and must thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Support business development, write proposals, white papers, and technical documents.
  • Deliver technical presentations to internal and external customers.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to brief non-technical audiences, is required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in acoustics, acoustical engineering, physics, applied physics, or a closely related field.
  • Experience with simulation and computation software is highly desired. 
  • Experience performing laboratory experiments and evaluating fieldable prototypes.
  • Five years of professional experience working with underwater acoustics systems.

  • Applicants selected for this position will be required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
