District Estimating Manager

Summary

The District Estimating Manager plays a crucial role in guiding our company's project bidding strategies. This role involves a combination of strategic decision-making, leadership, and technical prowess. The District Estimating Manager is instrumental in project selection, overseeing the bid process, and ensuring successful project acquisition. This role also encompasses the recruitment, training, and management of a team of estimators, utilizing advanced computer technology and mathematical acumen to formulate precise estimates.

Essential Functions

• Develop and maintain the bid schedule, establishing a structured workflow for the estimating team.
• Engage actively with contractors and team members during the bidding phase.
• Conduct thorough reviews of the scope of work with General Contractors, both before and after bids, focusing on achieving a competitive edge.
• Lead the team in accurate cost analysis and interpretation relative to the project scope.
• Review and familiarize with construction plans, drawings, and specifications, ensuring awareness of bid deadlines and special project requirements.
• Strategically approach project planning, including segmenting larger projects and identifying key components such as opening sets or hardware.
• Interpret construction specifications, consulting with sales staff, customers, or architects when needed.
• Assess building plans to identify relevant sections involving the company, and effectively summarize these by type.
• Evaluate the accuracy of material estimates against actual usage at the conclusion of each project.
• Cultivate strong customer relationships during the pre-bid stages.
• Oversee the comprehensive costing of all project parts and scopes of work.
• Other relative duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• 2 or 4 year degree in Engineering or related area preferred or 5 years of job related experience
• 5-7 years of related experience in similar construction or building material industry
• Accurate mathematical skills

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Experience working in Comsense preferred and Knowledge of industry related software
• Skilled in blueprint/plan reading
• Specification interpretation
• Microsoft office complete
• Knowledge of door, frame and hardware applications as they relate to UL, fire code, building code, ADA, life safety and other restrictions that relate to the general commercial construction industry
• Must have excellent oral communication skills and positive interpersonal skills.
• Detail oriented, deadline conscience, goal driven
• Ability to handle all types of scopes of projects

Physical Demands 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and see. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hand to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.  Frequent lifting required of items 5-25 pounds, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Work Environment  

This job operates in both a professional office and warehouse environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. May occasionally require driving to project sites. Conditions will include proximity to forklifts or other heavy machinery and using various tools and hardware. Subject to frequent heavy lifting. May be exposed to variable weather conditions, including hot and cold temperatures.
