Position Summary
The Choices Counselor is responsible for providing dynamic prevention education, assessment, and counseling for students, their parents or legal guardians, and faculty at local schools. You will have the unique opportunity to deliver substance abuse/high-risk behavior prevention education for students, primarily in grades 9 through 12. You will engage closely with students and their families, providing individual, group, and family counseling. At times, you will also provide parent coaching and guidance and consult faculty about substance abuse, co-occurring disorders, and high-risk behaviors. Frequently you will step in to deliver intervention and crisis counseling. You will be a member of the school and The Council on Recovery teams. You will serve as a case manager and advocate for students who need recovery support. You will have the opportunity to plan and organize a parent advisory committee and present at parent forums. As appropriate, you will also provide accurate and timely reports (including but not limited to diagnostic summaries, service plans, follow-up reports and progress notes). You will participate in supervision and training sessions with The Council on Recovery, ongoing training workshops and seminars to keep your skills and licensure current. You may also lead trainings for various stakeholders on the brain science and high-risk behaviors. You will have the opportunity to engage closely in the research of the Choices program by implementing evaluation and outcome studies for students and parents. You will be a team player for your school and the Council on Recovery and complete other duties as assigned and needed.
