Position Title: DSP II- Vocational Counselor

JOB SUMMARY
The Vocational Counselor works closely with the client’s Primary Case Manager. Performs duties relating to case management including assisting clients in obtaining services to support vocational goals, and making necessary referrals. Provides counseling on topics: Job Readiness Skills, Vocational Planning, Financial Skills, and Educational needs. Will include group facilitating.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Vocational Counselor performs an integral role in carrying out the mission of The Counseling Center, Inc., by performing the following duties:
- Assesses needs of client, assists in carrying out goals of treatment plan, and works with other departments within The Counseling Center to best serve the client’s needs.
- Assists in obtaining supportive services to aid the client in their personal goals in recovery through the services of the agency or through referral to other agencies or programs. Assist clients in accessing community resources and provides supportive services as appropriate.
- Provides group education services in an effort to improve vocational skills, life skills and gain job readiness skills to support goals.
- Provides written documentation of client activity/treatment plans and periodic written updates in order to maintain compliance with requirement/standards and provide documentation for billing of services. Initiates all correspondence and paperwork related to needs assessments and client service reports (i.e., letters, progress notes, rosters, mailing lists).
- Maintains contact with client to follow-up on progress and to ensure client is complying with treatment requirements and vocational goals.
- Facilitates job training, resume development, interview skills and job placement referrals to Success Center and serves as an advocate for the client in cases of employment.
- Helps clients leaving The Counseling Center find meaningful work that serves to increase their independence and social interconnectedness.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
Secondary functions are duties, which are not exclusive of the position, can be performed by other positions; however, secondary duties are to be performed for the efficiency of The Counseling Center, Inc.
- Assists in office tasks when needed.
- Attends weekly staff and clinical meetings to share in problem solving and addressing specific client issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator/Director.
COMPETENCIES
- Demonstrated knowledge of alcoholism and chemical dependency.
- Demonstrates understanding of clinical practice and performance including understanding of the process of assessment, treatment, and confidentiality.
- Ability in the area of effective communication, interpersonal skills.
- Ability to complete all documentation in accordance with agency policy.
- Effective time management/organizational skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, INCLUDING TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of alcoholism and other addictions, experience with 12-Step Recovery Program preferred.
- CDCA or LCDC II minimum
- Valid Ohio Driver’s License and ability to maintain insurability preferred.
