Position Summary:
The Financial Counselor will be responsible for providing individual financial empowerment and counseling services for low income and distressed individuals. To develop individualized service plans to support clients manage their money and resolve finance related issues. The Financial Counselor reports to the Program Director.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide a range of financial services that are tailored to the need of individual participants
- Interview participants', analyze financial information, recommend financial plans and monitor for outcomes
- Help participants map out earnings, savings, and spending goals that allow them to be financially independent and support life milestones like paying off dept
- Listen to participants' goals and coach them on how to achieve them.
- Reframe participant's attitude towards their financial futures and goal settings to credit repair and debt management
- Assist participants with opening a checking/savings account and provide assistance utilizing other financial products and services
- Provide counseling and resources on resolving wage garnishments, judgments, turn-off notices, etc.
- Handle confidential information and timely input notes and outcomes in internal/external databases
- Provide one on one financial advice, create service plans on how to pay bills and manage money
- Conduct financial counseling sessions weekly one on one/group
- Provide weekly program reports to the senior director of youth & youth adult services that include but are not limited to program attendance, program participation, and program activities
- Provide program data to support program report
- Represent organization at partner and funders (DOP) meetings

Education and Experience:
- HS Diploma or GED.
- OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience
- Experience working with youth and young adults using youth development principles as well as workforce development principles
- Effective customer service skills
- 3 or more years prior financial planning or coaching experience
- Ability to work as part of a team with various stakeholders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent presentation, writing and communication skills
- Computer literate, Microsoft Office skills required
- Bilingual Spanish a plus
