About The Position
This position supports strategic communications activities that accurately position The Geneva Foundation (Geneva) for success. The Strategic Communications Administrator collaborates with the Executive and Leadership teams, the Board of Directors and other advisory groups, and key stakeholders to develop and execute a strategic communications and outreach plan with a strong focus on capturing and promoting Geneva’s impact. The Strategic Communications Administrator also supports Geneva’s advocacy efforts by establishing and maintaining relationships with congressional staff, develpoing stakeholder communications, and engaging partners in advocacy efforts. A strong writer with sound judgement, the Strategic Communications Administrator drives strategic communications and engagement initiatives, understands and promotes Geneva’s goals, writes high-quality content, and promotes the organization’s brand image.
This is a hybrid remote position where the employee must be available to go into the office located in Bethesda, MD at least 1-2 times per week and willing to travel at least once a quarter.
Salary Range
$75,000 - $80,000. Salaries are determined based on several factors including external market data, internal equity, and the candidate’s related knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic communications programs to support the Executive and Leadership teams, the Board of Directors and related advisory groups, and key stakeholders
- Identify, research, and develop targeted messaging to convey Geneva’s impact, priorities, and success based on government needs and Geneva’s mission
- Support legislative outreach activities by leading the development of legislative materials and communicating Geneva’s advocacy messages and policy positions with members of Congress and legislative staff
- Work with Geneva leadership and Board to coordinate advocacy activities; support the Board Advocacy Committee
- Maintain strong understanding of Geneva’s goals and strategies to ensure they are integrated into communications and outreach activities
- In collaboration with Corporate Strategy, Marketing and Communications, and Human Resources, drive engagement for strategic communications on key platforms, serving as key content contributor for a wide range of communications products including press releases, white papers, briefing materials, and talking points
- Work collaboratively with the Marketing and Communications team to ensure consistent branding and aligned internal and external communications on key themes
- Proactively manage external media relations including creation and distribution of press releases and building relationships with journalists, military facility public affairs officers, and regional leaders
- Implement Board engagement initiatives, to include development of onboarding materials, development of Board and committee meeting materials, and coordination of researcher presentations
- Represent Geneva at meetings with other stakeholders, non-profit, academic, and industry organizations
- Attend conferences, trade shows, site visits as required; and represent Geneva with the highest degree of professionalism
- Maintain a thorough and ongoing knowledge of Geneva’s programs, capabilities, and client relationships
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public affairs, or related equivalent work experience required
- Minimum 5 years of experience in communications, government relations, public relations, and/or stakeholder engagement
- Demonstrated strong analytical writing and verbal communications skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with demonstrated ability to coordinate complex projects, prioritize assignments, meet tight deadlines, and regularly report on status
- Must be flexible with changing priorities and able to communicate in a diplomatic and professional manner
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- Proven ability to develop stakeholder interest
- Experience supporting or advising senior leaders and executives
- Highly organized and skilled in synthesizing complex materials
- Ability to connect individual communications activities to higher-level strategies
- Ability to write story-driven content about complex technical subjects and projects that engage target audiences and enhances Geneva’s image
