ACCOUNTANT I JOB DESCRIPTION
GENERAL DEFINITION:
This is full performance level accounting work involving primary responsibility for carrying out assigned duties in records maintenance, accounting and information technology.
Work is performed with supervision from a technical or administrative superior. Responsibilities include providing financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data, and preparing reports.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF ACCOUNTING WORK: o Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards. o Report to management regarding the finances of the agency. o Establish tables of accounts, and assign entries to proper accounts. o Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs. o Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities. o Review monthly bank statements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: o Attendance is an essential function of the job o Strong understanding of accounting theory o Knowledge of business arithmetic, business English, spelling, and punctuation. o Knowledge of office practices, procedures and equipment. o Knowledge of budgeting and accounting policies and procedures. o Ability to make computations and tabulations accurately and with reasonable speed. o Ability to type accurately and with reasonable speed. o Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public. o Ability to maintain records and files in an organized and complete manner. o Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. o Proficiency with email and Microsoft Office applications o Accuracy in daily work and other projects. o Ability to meet communicated schedules and deadlines. o Ability to maintain good working relationships with vendors and other employees. o Ability to function as a team player . o Ability to allocate time efficiently
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the direction of the Director of Finance/MIS.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Minimal supervision over other departmental employees.
EDUCATIONAL AND JOB EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
