Summary
The Controller will be responsible for the financial planning for the company along with accounting responsibilities for both the company and our partners. Primary responsibilities include supervision of monthly closing process, billing, accounts receivable and accounts payable, assisting in preparation of annual property budgets, and coordinating completion of annual audits and tax returns with outside CPA firms. The Controller is part of a team that creates and implements policies, procedures, and systems to maximize internal efficiencies and shortening reporting deadlines while maintaining the integrity of financial data.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
· Responsible for monthly closing process, billing, accounts receivable accounts payable and cash management.
· Accurate and timely production and review of all financial information and communication of results internally and with partners.
· Assist in annual preparation of property budgets and forecasts.
· Preparation of work papers supporting monthly financials, property budgets, annual property audits and tax returns
· Implement, document, and maintain adequate and effective internal controls.
· Identify and implement systems or processes to maximize internal efficiencies, shorten reporting deadlines, and maintain integrity and accuracy of financial data.
· Supervise accountants and accounting staff.
· Set up and manage the company’s financial reporting IT system.
· Oversee all accounts and ledgers ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards, regulatory requirements, and partners’ needs.
· Any other responsibilities and projects that may be assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
· Conscientious about timeliness of assignments and quality of work product
· Good GAAP, Tax, and financial reporting skills with excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.
· Able to multi-task while maintaining control and order.
· Responsive team player with ability to quickly prioritize among numerous tasks.
· Good computer skills in the operation of Microsoft Office Suite and YARDI.
· Strong written and verbal skills with the ability to positively communicate with all levels of the organization and with parties outside the company.
· Ability to strategize and solve problems.
· Must be able to analyze data and supporting evidence to provide recommendations.
· Knowledge of real estate, construction, commercial and multi-family industries.
· Must be flexible in a fast-paced and changing work environment.
Attendance
The corporate offices are open Monday through Friday with office hours between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. You will be required to work a 40-hour work week. However, due to the nature of our business, some flexibility relative to working extended hours, weekends, and holidays to meet the company’s needs will periodically be required.
Experience
A minimum of 10 – 15 years’ of progressively responsible experience in a real estate management environment.
Equipment
a. Position may require individuals to use their own vehicle or to operate a vehicle provided by the Company to make bank deposits, visit properties, and perform other duties as necessary. Individuals must have the ability to drive without jeopardizing their safety or that of prospects, residents, or fellow employees.
b. Position requires an individual to wear appropriate business apparel.
Travel
Although this position may be based at the location indicated above, the ability to travel to and work at other Company locations at the Company’s request due to business needs may also be required.
Education
· Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business administration
· Public accounting audit experience preferred but not required
