If this sounds like you, Montgomery Parks Facilities Management Division, located in Gaithersburg, Maryland is the place you want to be! We are currently seeking a dynamic, highly professional Fleet Information Systems Specialist.

Facilities Management Division:
The Fleet Information Systems Specialist will be part of the Facilities Management Division. This Division of 118 staff provides for the care and maintenance of the Department’s physical assets including facilities, pavement, fleet, and major building systems. With a budget over $13 million dollars, the division is responsible for facility condition assessments, major and minor maintenance programs, and serves as the primary support to the Department’s Capital Improvement Projects (CIP). The division strives to achieve a balance between the upkeep of aging facilities and new construction by integrating a number of CIP and major maintenance projects into the daily work program each year.

Fleet Services The Fleet Services Section consists of 30 staff located throughout Montgomery County. Staff include supervisors, mechanics and parts department employees that are responsible for vehicle acquisition, centralized maintenance and repair for all motorized equipment and oversight of 12 fueling stations Department-wide. Fleet operates out of the Green Farm Maintenance Facility in Gaithersburg plus 9 satellite maintenance yard/repair shops. The inventory of Vehicles is over 500 and Equipment is over 3,000 pieces, managed utilizing a system called Faster. The system was recently upgraded to a cloud-based system. Fleet provides specifications, bid and purchasing of vehicles and equipment for replacement each year. Mechanics perform repair and preventative maintenance to vehicles and equipment daily and contract out specialized repair work as needed.

Our Fleet Information Systems Specialist is responsible for the setup, maintenance, repair, configuration, customization, and user support of computer applications on various hardware and software programs, including but not limited to: FASTER Web, FuelMaster, Veeder-Root, and EAM (Enterprise Asset Management System). This position is responsible for the planning and completion of regularly scheduled IT-related work and maintenance. This position is also responsible for the coordination of stakeholders, users, and vendors as appropriate to research problems, identify solutions, and ensure efficient system administration.

Examples of Important Duties

Maintain Fuel Sites for M-NCPPC Sites in Montgomery County


  • Provides fuel usage estimates in concert with the Budget Manager and Fleet Manager for the upcoming fiscal year.
  • Creates fuel purchase orders in concert with Fleet Manager for diesel and gas for stocking each fuel site based on projected usage for fiscal year.
  • Oversees fuel levels at each site and contacts assigned vendor to refill fueling station at regular intervals prior to depletion.
  • Ensures mileage data and fuel usage data are daily imported into software.
  • Maintains updated inventory of fuel site infrastructure and systems at 11 sites.
Manages, Inspects, and Performs Repairs at all Fuel Sites
  • Develops written checklist for inspection of each fuel site. Completes detailed inspections of each fuel site at least once per month. Completes inspection checklists stored on Divisional T: drive in the Fleet folder.
  • Contacts vendors and obtained estimates to diagnose and repair major issues.
  • Selected approved vendor(s) for maintenance and repair. Ensures vendors carry Maryland Department of the Environment Certification.
  • Visits sites where vendors are working and ensured work was accomplished to acceptable standards per contract or purchase order.
  • Maintains A, B, C Operator Certification with Maryland Department of the Environment.
  • Ensures Maryland Oil Control Certificate present for each applicable maintenance facility.
  • Manages contractor and scheduled fuel tank flushing one time per year.
Maintains FASTER Database, Software, and Upgrades
  • Maintains local FASTER servers, updated data, loaded upgrades, and completed monthly closing.
  • Provides reports from FASTER as requested.
  • Completes annual controlled asset inventory yearly.
Important Skills and Characteristics
  • Considerable knowledge and skill in collecting, analyzing, organizing, and documenting information.
  • Ability to mine data and perform quality control checks.
  • Ability to develop, administer, and deliver systems training.
  • Ability to produce and generate reports.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience using FASTER Web Fleet Management Software.
  • Previous experience using FuelMaster Software, Veeder Root Software, Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software.
  • Previous experience working in Fleet.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems or any related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in applications support and development.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total six (6) years.
  • Depending upon area of assignment, a valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.
