The Team
The facilitator of Upper Campus Spiritual Life works to support spiritual life, and values based character development in line with the MV Mission and IDEA Statement. This member of the faculty is an integral part of the community in surveying and upholding inclusive and regenerative culture and climate in partnership with the Chief of IDEA, the Lower Campus Director of Community & Culture, Middle School and Upper School Leadership, and the Collaborative Care team as we consider spiritual health and wellbeing. The Collaborative Care team is the collection of professionals dedicated to our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing (Nursing, Counseling, Spiritual Life, Academic Resources).
The Role
This position has the opportunity to impact culture and community through programs, and relationships.. Mount Vernon is grounded in Christian values and this faculty member is charged with helping all community members connect to these values. This role is critical to our identity and the work of aligning our community to our school values and building capacity through values based character development directly supports the academic life of our students and faculty. Strong candidates will be comfortable teaching scriptures from the Holy Bible, drawing connections to Jesus as our example and sharing messages that engage and connect with the lived experiences of the full community regardless of religion or faith base. Strong candidates will align with our Spiritual Life purpose and deeply connect to the Mount Vernon community. This part time position will be tailored to suit ideal candidate's availability as much as possible given the prioritization of the academic day and schedule.
Responsibilities
- Design of a responsive and engaging weekly Chapel experience scaffolded by the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL)
- Partners with MV Studios team to co-design and provide direction regarding musical selections, environment design, supporting materials, AV needs and more for chapel programs
- Support the academic development of students through designing/ teaching a courses connected to World Religions and spiritual life
- Support the IDEA Inclusion Network: Affinity & Alliance faith based groups and student directed faith based opportunities (i.e., Bible study)
- Serve as a mentor for the Upper School Spiritual Life Prefect with the Prefect committee as touchstones in the design of weekly Chapel experiences
- Commitment to professional learning and staying connected to best practices around the work of spiritual life in educational settings

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in faith related field and/or real world pastoral experience
- Familiarity with world religions
- Familiarity with best practices in Spiritual Care
- Youth Ministry experience (preferred)
- Middle School/Upper School teaching experience (preferred)
