Primary Function
 

The Manager of Practice and Prevention resides within the Nemours National Office of Policy and Prevention.  This position is funded by a combination of grant and Nemours funding. Nemours seeks to spread, scale and sustain child health related changes in early care and care education (ECE) settings and systems. This position provides management support and technical assistance for a portfolio of initiatives focused at the intersection of ECE and health, including healthy eating and physical activity and overall child well-being.  The Manager will be part of a collaborative team and must be comfortable working closely with team members to achieve common goals. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Project management support for federal and private foundation funded projects, including budget and subcontract monitoring, reports to funders, and managing multiple workplans;
  • Provide content expertise and technical assistance on ECE, healthy eating and physical activity, child health and development, and/or child well-being. This position provides TA, in-person and virtually, to state and local partners, including department of health and child care resource and referral agencies. 
  • Maintaining and identifying opportunities for strategic partnerships with external experts, groups, stakeholders, and partners, as well as cultivating internal relationships across Nemours to advance the goals of the Enterprise.
  • Developing and implementing program recommendations, evaluating programs; analyzing and drafting briefs and articles; developing strategies and tactics to advance Nemours’ practice and prevention goals; and working with internal and external stakeholders to implement these plans.

Knowledge, Formal Education, Training

  • Master's degree or higher
  • 5 years of management experience

Essential Functions

  • Leadership – Leads the development of prevention and practice strategies, tactics, evaluation, events and other deliverables within the assigned portfolio areas, working in collaboration with Nemours business partners in the states and National Office colleagues and with external partners. Provide leadership in implementing Continuous Improvement projects for the team.
  • Strategy Development – Must be a strategic thinker who helps to develop and execute a strategy to accomplish Nemours mission of being a preeminent voice for children.
  • Advance Outreach Efforts and Communications – Serves as a lead for the National Office’s strategic partnerships and coalition building strategies with other organizations for assigned portfolio areas. This includes acting as one of the lead communicators and message developers for Nemours strategies to stakeholders, partners, and coalitions, as well as to internal audiences, and includes sustained collaboration with other team members.
  • Manage – Devise and manage strategies and tactics to advance Nemours’ practice and prevention agenda and the goals of the National Office. The Manager works independently and is able to develop project plans and delegate tasks effectively if necessary. The Manager may have supervisory responsibilities and will delegate assignments with a focus on establishing clear work expectations, providing timely feedback and offering mentorship. The position will require minimal supervision.
  • Identify Opportunities through Research and Analysis – Stays current with best practices, innovations, partners, potential innovation areas, and research in the field and advises the senior leadership team of these options and strategies in order to identify opportunities for Nemours to be viewed as a trusted resource and to help advance practice and prevention goals.
  • Leverage Expertise – Leverages subject matter knowledge to develop and manage strategies and tactics to advance Nemours’ goals, working collaboratively with partners across the National Office and the Nemours Enterprise. The Manager contributes intellectual and technical practice and prevention support and makes recommendations and decisions to help form and advance strategic goals, using the most relevant and current research, data and knowledge. The includes knowledge of national programs and levers to innovate, spread and scale, with responsibilities to include researching, designing and implementing national initiatives.
  • Writing – Leads the development and writing of grants, briefs, backgrounders, papers and presentations for Nemours internal business partners, stakeholders in the field, and professional publications.
  • Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned from time to time by employee’s supervisor.

Performance Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of areas of primary responsibility within the National Policy & Prevention agenda, including ECE, child health and well-being. 
  • In addition, the Manager must be able to demonstrate the skills in applying this knowledge to advance effective strategies.
  • Knowledge of various prevention and practice strategies and in-depth knowledge of project implementation and management.
  • Knowledge of management principles and methods including effective delegation and supervision.
  • Ability to thoroughly analyze issues and reach independent decisions without supervision.
  • Ability to work independently in a matrix organization including the ability to plan and organize with little assistance and integrate work across the enterprise. Ability to communicate effectively towards targeted audiences (written and oral).
  • Ability to work collaboratively on teams.
