What are the responsibilities and job description for the Latin Teacher Leave Replacement, Fall 2023 position at The Nightingale-Bamford School?
The Nightingale-Bamford School seeks a sabbatical leave replacement to teach Middle School and Upper School Latin classes for the Fall Semester (September 2023 through January 2024) during the 2023-2024 school year. This is a .75 full time equivalent, exempt position and is eligible for benefits for the duration of the assignment
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
- Teaching three Latin classes in grades VI-X.
- Collaborating with other department members to design and implement curriculum, plan lessons, develop enrichment and assessment materials, and report on student performance.
- Fostering intellectual curiosity and a love for the study of antiquity in the students and the school community at large
- Effectively and professionally communicate with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators on academic matters
- Attending all relevant divisional, departmental meetings
- Participating in required professional development activities and events.
- Performing additional assigned school duties (e.g., supervise study or lunch, etc.)
- Attending weekly meetings as a member of the professional community
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the division head
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Classics. Relevant advanced degrees, though not required, are preferred
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of Latin vocabulary and grammar as well as Roman literature, history, culture, and art, and convey this knowledge to the students with dedication and enthusiasm
- Be eager to work with a close-knit team and adopt a collaborative spirit
- Experience in teaching Latin, preferably at the secondary-school level
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ease in effectively prioritizing multiple competing tasks and demands
- A shared understanding of the mission of the School and a demonstrated commitment to the core principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Demonstrated cultural competence and an ability to understand, appreciate, and work with constituents across varied backgrounds and cultures
SALARY RANGE (for a half year position)
$35,000-$45,000
