The University Landscape Architect will provide detailed and focused leadership regarding strategic planning and design within the Office of Planning, Architecture, and Real Estate at The Ohio State University. The University Landscape Architect will play an active role in the project-by-project implementation of the university's Framework Plan as well as in establishing and implementing a strategic vision for all outdoor public spaces on both the Columbus and the regional campuses. Using the Guidelines for Buildings and Landscape, the University Landscape Architect will play a key role in shaping all projects implemented at The Ohio State University.
The University Landscape Architect will report directly to the Senior Director of Campus Planning and Design and provide support, as deemed necessary, to the Vice President of Planning, Architecture, and Real Estate. Additionally, this position will act as a professional resource and support all colleges and business units on the main campus and the regional campuses by directing strategic planning initiatives and landscape architectural projects during the design, project review, and construction of all capital improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities:

Work closely as a member of the Campus Planning and Design team with other PARE colleagues and outside consultants/professionals on the management and oversight of the Civic Structure fund, the design of all landscape architectural components of capital improvement projects, facility scoping studies, planning studies, programming studies, framework master planning, project benchmarking, identifying and/or advocating for campus beautification projects that could be designed and constructed with in-house expertise, and the management of special projects as assigned by his/her supervisor.

Work closely with Facilities, Design, and Construction to provide landscape architectural and urban design/planning expertise on projects of all levels during all phases of design, including construction documentation and the physical construction phase.

Oversees construction documents for quality, design integrity, and consistency with Design Review Board's direction and vision. During construction, this role will review the project schedule to ensure landscape milestones are met in a timely manner with a commensurate level of expected quality.

Coordinate with OSU Landscape Services to provide a consistent voice that reinforces the campus landscape vision.

Take an active role in shaping landscape maintenance expectations on all OSU campuses.

Guide new projects to ensure that the desired project vision can be adequately maintained over the life of the project in a manner consistent with the overall project vision. The University Landscape Architect will assist Landscape Services in defining project scope(s) and budgets for self-performed / in-house projects.

Act as a close advisor, with other members of the Campus Planning and Design team, to oversee and direct the PARE Student Design Studio. This studio is a multi-disciplinary team of students whose core responsibilities are providing graphic support and conceptual/schematic project planning for the Campus Planning and Design team.

Serve as a resource and a strategic advisor to various university planning groups, committees, and the School of Landscape Architecture. Additionally, it is expected that the University Landscape Architect will maintain and build relationships with peers at other universities through professional affiliations.

In accordance with the Disaster Preparedness and University State of Emergency Policy 6.17 this position has been designated as a STANDBY position.
Minimum Education Required:
- Bachelor's Level Degree in Landscape Architecture
Additional Education Desired:
- Master's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications:

Must be a registered landscape architect in the State of Ohio with 8-10 years of experience planning, designing, and managing landscape architectural-related projects.

Requires successful completion of a criminal background check and a valid driver's license.

Proficient experience with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat/Creative Suite, and AutoCAD is required.

It is an expectation that the University Landscape Architect will remain current in professional disciplines through local and state licensure and fulfill all required continuing education requirements.

A strong background in managing professional staff, consultants, and contractors toward the successful implementation of a project is expected.
