What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vocational Counselor position at The Opus Network?
Fast growing employment services organization seeking a Vocational Counselor/Employment Consultant to provide supported employment services to disabled job seekers in the Richmond area. We are committed to helping our staff achieve a positive work/life balance. This means small caseloads (20 or less) and a high degree of control over your own schedule.
Job duties include:
- Case Management & Human Services: Assist clients through the various stages of the job search process, assess their skills and barriers to employment, and help them get connected to other resources in the community
- Recruiting: Identify and pursue job leads for our clients by building connections with area employers and networking within the community.
- Training and job site support: Assist clients in adapting to their work environments and provide job site training as needed
- Administration and reporting: Maintain a working file for each client, submit daily progress notes, and communicate progress with the state agencies that we contract with
The best candidates will have the following qualities
- Ambitious: We are looking for someone to assist in building a superior service model that can be replicated statewide
- Superior organizational and time management skills: You will be responsible for managing your own schedule and balancing multiple priorities. This means keeping a detailed calendar, utilizing a CRM and other task management software, and taking lots of notes
- Creative problem solver; Comfortable with a lack of structure: Our clients come from a wide variety of backgrounds, and there is no one size fits all strategy or step by step process that will work for everyone. You must be comfortable developing innovative strategies to address novel problems as they arise.

Minimum Requirements
This position is community based and requires a personal vehicle and a good driving record. In addition, candidates must meet ONE of the following qualifications:
2 years experience providing community based supported employment services as a job coach or employment specialist and a proven track record of success in placing individuals with disabilities in competitive employment
Or
A Masters degree and 2 years of experience as a career counselor
Or
A Masters in Vocational Rehabilitation and 1 years of related experience
